So I decided to make this thread since people are still asking how they care for the bodies while the mind is in SAO. The answer is rather simple they are fed the nutrients required to live through tubing the same as a patient in a coma.

The information is from here but, can be read below.

What Happens When Someone Is in a Coma?
Someone who is in a coma is unconscious and will not respond to voices, other sounds, or any sort of activity going on nearby. The person is still alive, but the brain is functioning at its lowest stage of alertness. You can't shake and wake up someone who is in a coma like you can someone who has just fallen asleep. Although in SAO case the players are stuck inside the game rather then being "asleep"

How Do People Take Care of Someone in a Coma?
Someone in a coma usually needs to be cared for in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital. There, the person can get extra care and attention from doctors, nurses, and other hospital staff. They make sure the person gets fluids, nutrients, and any medicines needed to keep the body as healthy as possible. These are sometimes given through a tiny plastic tube inserted in a vein or through a feeding tube that brings fluids and nutrients directly to the stomach.

Some comatose people are unable to breathe on their own and need the help of a ventilator (say: ven-tih-lay-ter), a machine that pumps air into the lungs through a tube placed in the windpipe. The hospital staff also tries to prevent bedsores in someone who is comatose. Bedsores are open sores on the body that come from lying in one place for too long without moving at all.

It can be very upsetting and frustrating for a person's family to see someone they love in a coma, and they may feel scared and helpless. But they can help take care of the person. Taking time to visit the hospital and read to, talk to, and even play music for the patient are important because it's possible that the person may be able to hear what's going on, even if he or she can't respond.

What Happens After a Coma?
This part isn't going to be the same for SAO case since the players are in the game mentally however anyone in a coma for a long amount of time would need to go under muscle rehab in order to get their body responding and, working again.

Just because I'll put the other things that players said was a weird or hard to get use to after leaving SAO

If you have any questions I'll answer them to the best of my abilities. On a side note this basically covers most of which we discussed on the Episode 1 discussion but, should be useful for those of you who didn't read over the mess of that thread xD ( Lots of posts lol )

Also gotta say

>Taking time to visit the hospital and read to, talk to, and even play music for the patient are important because it's possible that the person may be able to hear what's going on, even if he or she can't respond.

NOT TRUE for the vast majority of comas, but it's always good to hold on to hope.

It's actually a fact that the higher a patients moral is and, the more happy they are the possibility of them being cured from their injury / sickness is much higher then, if they are sad / depressed

However most of the time people never wake up from comas that's just how it is in reality. There aren't that many cases of people waking up who have been in it for a while but, when it comes to the "coma" of sword art online it's a different since even though their body isn't active their mind is.

Really part of the mind might be active hearing what your saying based on things they enjoyed while they were no in a coma there was one time a report of a girl who had shot a basket with a basketball who was in coma since it had become something she really enjoyed it started a spark.

Here is the article about the girl http://msn.foxsports.com/other/story/kansas-high-school-hoops-players-used-to-shoot-baskets-while-in-coma-022312

So what's so special about it? You die when you are killed in the real world as well.

Anyway, I have one question?
How do they transport them to the hospital? In order to transport them to the hospital they need to be disconnected first which also kills them if I remember correctly.
And how about players who live alone? No one might know they are actually playing the game (so no one can rescue them) and even if someone does the player might have locked himself up.

They excluded the part where kayaba says the government has 2 hours ( i think about 2 hours ) to get the bodies to hospitals. As for the players who live online at the end of vol1 they suggested that people on the outside could see stats of users and, etc. so it's safe to say they grabbed the ips of the users and, contacted the isp to get their location and, move them. The government would be a national level of security so it would be pretty easy for them to do without much trouble not to mention they can check credit cards and, etc. of people who purchased the game.

In addition to that, the NerveGear also has an internal battery.

Having a internal battery wouldn't keep a internet connection added that's why he gave them the time :)

Not to the T but, they mention it later on that getting the in game time and, the time in the real world to match up is very hard so they can only get it so close. However they have a in game calendar so they can see what day it is on the outside ^_^

I agree with that. Naku No Koro Ni's villian was notorious. This one in SAO doesn't give a damn about any of them.

Well, the setting is much more extreme than .HACK as the person is just coma in real life if PK but the scale in real world in .HACK is more extreme than SAO as .HACK involve the whole world network and SAO just involve the 10000 player.

Will that and this coma is fundamentally different then your normal coma. Technically speaking their bodies were not harmed when they became trapped in the game. Your typical coma patient stays in intensive care because of the physical injuries they received getting into that state. Once out of intensive care patients are force fed meals, moved by the staff to prevent sores, and a catheter is inserted along with something to deal with bowel movements. From this point on family members could take over to some degree and in the show the creator definitely had to pay for their medical expenses. Considering the size of the amount of players in SOA it does seems ridiculous but that's were I think the fiction begins. Its not unreasonable but it definitely isn't probable.

would you even consider what there in to be a coma? there brain is still functioning at full capacity and there body is obviously still breathing, they might just be forced to use a IV drip for nutrients and a catheter to ex-spell waste other than that they can live a bed sore ridden life.

When they get killed the helmet sends a synoptic blast or something i cant remember and it kills there brain making there brains die not become comatose.

Comas don't mean the brain isn't working it just means they are in a long state of unconsciousness obviously damage to the brain is one of the most common but, it's happened before where the brain is working fine and, they should be awake but, for a unknown reason are not. Also this is while they are playing SAO not after the event or once they have died in the game.

There are a couple different ways they do it but, I think they said in the LN to bed is made of special absorbing material but, I don't know the exacts on that area. However your right in that it is a serious thing because without going to the bathroom someone would die.
