If you're looking through the relations trying to pick stuff to watch, this thread can serve as a general guidebook as to the general Cute Girls / Cute Things degree of a given series. If you're in this club, you should know that it's cute as in "cutesy". Other members of the club are welcome to add to this, as I will admit to not having seen everything in here.

This thread is here to help you pick out which Cute Girls Doing Cute Things show you should watch, because the MAL synopses don't always tell you what kind of show you're getting yourself into.

----------------------

A-Channel: Cute girls doing everyday high school girl things; slow-paced, contains insert songs in every episode; slightly risqué. Contains a delightful airhead, her protective friend, the shy scaredy-cat moeblob (this is not an insult) and the glasses-wearing serious one. I find Tooru to be a fun-killer but a lot of people love her.

Azumanga Daioh: I can't imagine someone doesn't know what this is, but: cute girls doing everyday high school things, has... unusual elements (Chiyo's father, anyone?) Strength is in characters and humor as opposed to cuteness.

Cromartie High School: Not sure how it found its way in here, a show about idiotic delinquents doing idiotic things, not the least of which is hanging out with Freddie Mercury and a gorilla. No cute girls, no cute things, but absolutely hilarious nonetheless.

GA: Geijutsuka Art Design Class: Cute girls doing art related stuff; more of a comedy than a slice-of-life compared to a lot of other shows on the list. Can be somewhat spastic and slapstick at times. Contains no drama at all, which is a real rarity. Very family-friendly show.

Gakuen Utopia Manabi Straight: I just picked this up today, which encouraged me to put together this post. Cute girls preparing for a school festival that may or may not go through. Contains Yui Horie character making adorable pouting faces, you absolutely must be prepared for this or you will regret it. Gets a little dramatic but always tries to look on the bright side of things.

Ground Defense Mao-Chan: Cute girls cutely defend Earth from... cute aliens, such as a giant sheep. For something Ken Akamatsu had a hand in, it certainly lacked his particular brand of fanservice - though cute girls doing cute things is a fan service of its own kind. Akamatsu also brought us the manga Negiho! Mahora Little Girls, which is like the first arc of Negima except all 31 of his students are five year old girls.

Hidamari Sketch: Cute girls doing art related stuff; much slower-paced than Geijutsuka Art Class and slightly more risqué (thanks, Yoshinoya!) but not overly so. Contains classic Ume Aoki WIDEFACE but also contains Kana Asumi (and occasional guest appearances by Rie Kugimiya) so your ears may not forgive you for watching it. Hidamari Sketch is more cute girls doing funny slice-of-life art whereas Geijutsuka Art is more cute girls doing comedy art, if you're trying to choose between them. But why would you?

K-On: If you don't know what this is, perhaps you're in the wrong place. Cute girls doing music related stuff slash drinking tea and eating pastries in their clubroom. Contains inarguably the most adorable character ever. Some people prefer Mio episodes I guess but they are wrong. Is more slice-of-life than comedy, and is generally very slow paced whenever Yui is not a focal point. Manga is slightly ecchi from ch. 53 onwards.

Kanamemo: Most of the girls aren't really cute at all, but the main character Kana is absolutely adorable. A group of girls, most of whom are openly lesbian, work at a newspaper delivery service. One is Yui Horie in a perverted-old-man role-in-the-body-of a 25-year-old-woman role that needs to go away. Also contains loli tsundere Rie Kugimiyas and inexplicable fanservice, but Kana herself makes a lot of hilarious reaction faces and is generally wonderful.

Kill Me Baby: Three characters; a ninja, a loli assassin and a total derp-o-matic. I'm not sure if the assassin beating up the airhead girl for being foolish all the time qualifies as cute enough but it's certainly funny. Anime is being done on the cheap; looks like a flash animation, but apart from the god-awful OP is inoffensive.

Kowarekake no Orgel - A story that tries to be sad, but the main female character certainly passes the CGDCT test whenever she does anything at all.

Lucky Star: Again, most people know what this one is, but for the rest of you: Cute girls doing high school stuff, homework, hanging out, going to the dentist, all sorts of normal stuff... except for the main character who adds watching anime, playing video games, uses "tsundere" in everyday conversation, and all sorts of otaku hobbies to the usual script, giving it a distinct flair. Has an anime hobbyist, "tsundere", lovable airhead and glasses-wearing moeblob as stars. Also contains downright bizarre live-action bits at the end of certain episodes. Highly recommended.

Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica: Has the same WIDEFACE design as Hidamari Sketch but is _not_ a Cute Girls Doing Cute Things experience - is actually a rather dark magical girl show not for the kiddies. Any more would be spoilers. If you are looking for Cute Girls Doing Cute Things, STAY AWAY FROM THIS. If you liked Nanoha or Mai-Hime or enjoy Ai Nonaka (who does not love Ai Nonaka?), this is a must watch, but nothing cute will happen while you watch it. It would be akin to thinking Clannad is a show about Cute Girls Doing Cute Things because Fuko is in it. (Fuko is also voiced by Ai Nonaka for what that's worth)

Minami-Ke: The most slice-of-life-y anime I think I've ever seen; Minami-ke follows three sisters as they... live their lives. From getting up in the morning to going to bed at night and messing with each other while they sleep, this is the definitive slice of life show as opposed to a Cute Girls Doing Cute Things show. Has a much larger amount of male characters than your standard CGDCT fare. One of them enjoys taking off his shirt, fantasizing about the eldest sister and laughing maniacally, not necessarily in that order. This is played for laughs as opposed to him being some sort of antagonist. It is also hilarious every time it happens. The second season has a lot of totally unnecessary fanservice and is generally ignored by the fanbase. Some of the fanbase also ignores the third season as well.

Morita-San wa Mukuchi is one of those three-minute animations that never adapts well; the manga is four cute girls doing normal high school stuff except in this universe there are actually boys who interact with the world around them (okay, they're too afraid to interact with the girls but they're trying, okay?)

Nichijou: Two distinct stories that eventually become one story. One half involves three schoolgirls who enjoy pulling pranks on each other. The other half involves a five year old scientist and an adorable girl robot in a more CGDCT situation. The robot girl eventually ends up at school with the other three girls. Is primarily a comedy, and the schoolgirls do not have any Cute Girls Doing Cute Things points. There are also other random skits and a _lot_ of non sequiturs that will leave you shaking your head. If you like random humor, this inoffensive show should be right up your alley.

Pani Poni Dash - A comedy about an eleven year old girl with a very high opinion of herself who becomes a teacher of a classroom of people who are not the most normal of folks. Very energetic, very strange, and 100% a comedy. Veers from cute girls doing cute things to downright bizarre things extremely fast, and really it just stays in the realm of the very bizarre from start to finish. The DVD special extra episode had an unfortunate penchant for panty shots that were not present in the original series.

Saki: Exceedingly cutesy girls playing competitive mahjong; your mileage may vary on how cute such an activity is. The manga actually has more of a classic shonen feel to me, though the anime is certainly full of CGDCT moments (and tacos!). The Saki Biyori manga spinoff is classic CGDCT stuff though. Be aware that no one in this universe wears underwear, and I have not quite figured out why.

Shinryaku Ika Musume: Less of cute girls doing cute things than one cutesy girl doing comical things in a cutesy manner. Ika Musume, the Squid Girl, is trying to invade the surface because the ocean is so polluted, but she never gets past the local beach house. Why? Because she's totally incompetent. Hilarity ensues. As a bonus, the English dub has _so_ many atrocious squid puns that it falls squarely in "So bad it's good" territory. A manga series in a similar vein is Zoushoku Plana-Chan, where the moé-anthropomorphism is a planarian instead of a squid. Oh, Japan...

Strike Witches: Cute girls who don't wear pants (as opposed to Saki, where they'll wear skirts but no underpants) fight aliens in a military setting. Again, your mileage may vary as to how cute this actually is. There is a lot of fanservice in this show and just as much in the sequel, so know that going in.

Tamayura: Cute girls living in a small city just going around living life over summer break; the main character enjoys photography and the other three main girls each have their own personality trait and hobby. Very calming, slow paced slice of life series that will occasionally drop chibis into the equation. The original was more drama, less cuteness whereas the TV show (Hitotose) was standard Cute Girls Doing Cute Things, with only a couple drama moments thrown in. Warning for your ears: Yuka Iguchi and Kana Asumi have starring roles.

Tantei Opera Milky Holmes: Less cute girls doing cute things and more cute girls doing comically retarded things. A moderately risqué energetic fast-paced slapstick comedy most notable for one of the male villains having a body pillow of himself. They may be "villains" but for the most part this show ignores its plot and just follows the four girls who are supposed to be detectives (the dunderhead pink-haired one, the gluttonous red-haired one, the delusional and quite obviously insane blonde and the lovable shy purple-haired blob girl) as they get themselves into comical situation after comical situation. At one point one of the girls is headbutted by a bear and this is played for laughs.

Galaxy Angel is not in the relations, but apart from Galaxy Angel Rune, the series is basically a spirit forerunner to Milky Holmes - if you liked one, you will like the other, and at least in Milfeulle's case, it's got Cute Girls Doing Cute Things. Its biggest issue is Yukari Tamura making Yukari Tamura noises, so make sure to warn your ears beforehand.

Yotsuba& - From the creator of Azumanga Daioh, this series is a lot like Ika Musume in the sense that it is one cutesy girl doing things cutely. It's also in the vein of another series not in our relations, Ryuushika Ryuushika, which is a not-so-cute girl doing cute things, but again, your mileage may vary.

Yuru Yuri: Exceedingly cutesy girls (art by Namori) going through high school and finding out that in at least two of their cases, that they like other girls (well, one of them was aware of this from the beginning). Can be moderately risqué at points; and you might find yourself thinking "squick" at other points. Is relatively slow-paced and has a recurring nosebleed character who needs to be shot into the sun, as well as one other character who is a nice, sweet girl but she kind of fades into the background, and you kind of forget she was there after a while. Poor Akari~n.

Joshiraku: You may come across Joshiraku at some point; this is not a Cute Girls Doing Cute Things series but a deconstruction by noted satirist Kumeta Koji, who seems to hate the genre with a passion. If you enjoy Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei (which I do), then by all means, Joshiraku is a very funny Cute Girls Doing Devious Things (and parodying CGDCT in a rather crude manner) comic, but don't go in expecting standard CGDCT fare.

I couldn't tell you about Hanamaru Youchien, Ichigo Mashimaro, Kimi To Boku (doesn't this have guys in it?), Kodomo no Jikan (I can tell you that this is erm, controversial, but that's about it), or Sora no Woto so if any club members want to fill us in on those shows, you're more than welcome to do so.

If you want to suggest any other shows not in the relations, make sure to note whether it has cute girls, what the cute things that they do are, what kind of show it is (slice of life? comedy-first? gag comedy? slow-paced? emotional?) so we know how much drama, if any, we're getting and how often we should expect to laugh.

Ichigo Mashimaro: Four preteens and the actual older sister of one of them (though she is a big-sister-type to all of them) do various things. The older sister is a teen in the original manga, but they made her a 20-21-year-old in the anime because she smokes and drinks, both of which are technically illegal in Japan before you're 20. There's a sensible tsukkomi who's also the cook of the group, a meek and childlike glasses-wearing girl, an English girl who's lived nearly half her life in Japan but wishes to hide the consequences of this from everyone she can (including not speaking Japanese even though she's fluent), and a troublemaker who's the source of most of the comedy and the target of many knocks to the floor.
"Say, Tsukasa, how do you eat a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup?"
