Great episode. Saber pairing up with Lancer to kill Caster, but I think a lot more will happen in this fight. Like Archer appearing out of no where and goes to kill all 3 of them.

I had high expectations for Kiritsugu in this episode. Not sure if he is playing with us or he is showing his full power, but that gun in the end, looks like it's going to be his secret weapon against Masters. Ah well, can't wait for next episode.

More gore got deleted away, most likely to encourage us to buy the Blu-Rays? Maybe, if it gets a reasonable price, than currently is said to be now.

Again, UTW is doing a fantastic job on this show. Couldn't asked for a better job, I hope they will also pick up the blu-rays as well in the future.

Someone is telling the studio so

As in.. they had to do it. Its coming out uncensored anyways, so just hold tight.
I think in a translated transcript of a seminar where members of ufotable spoke they admitted that they were basically pressured into censoring the scenes but they also said the scenes will be completely uncensored (and possibly redone) for the BD box sets.
Which means like many morons we have to spend money.

Well...........it will be worth on this but exactly! They know that and are going to take advantage of that. Well........there is the fact of something being worthy of getting too.

But still if they are command spells then at least he can control them with a command from his seals?

OK here how Command Spells work.
When the Holy Grail War starts, magi chosen as Master are bestowed 3 Command Spells each and their Servant. Master and Servant are linked by a contract, Servants obey their Master whose in return provide them in mana.
The Command Spells are what make a Magus a Master, without it they can't contract with their Servant and thus can't provide mana. These can also be used to give order to their Servant and release a sufficient amount of mana to perform impossible actions (such as teleportation, buff or submission) but it can only work on their Servant.

Risei's Command Spells are no more different than the other Masters so he could be one but can't use them on a Servant who's not his. Same for the Masters who can't use their Command Spells on other Servants.

I hope I was clear enough.
Oh I know all of that but I wanted to pinpoint the circumstances around Risei's command spells because if what you say applies to him then what servant does he have? Does he have one we are yet to meet? Seriously? Because if he does not have one then what are his command seals for anyway. Surely they are useful in another way.

I guess you missed the part where he said that these Command Spells are leftover from the previous war. He was referee for the 3rd Grail War and collected them at the end.

Precisely. Part of his job as overseer is to administrate the command seals that return back to the Grail. In essence Kirei should have had access to them too in the 5th war, but that depends on how many there were actually left.

Nice episode. I'm not a fan of seeing graphic gore so I'm okay with censors but did they have to make it so...obvious that it was censored? It goes from the grabbing of the kid to other kids screaming in fear. I was expecting a squish sound effect at least but the lack of it made it really obvious something gorey was cut.

Poor Saber with the kid. She looked so motherly and caring.

NOoooo I didn't want to see Kiritsugu's softie side... that was unexpected. Now he isn't as badass as I thought =/

Oh and if that ball is a 'familiar', then it should have more or less a consciousness of its own, shouldn't it? That means it'd defend its master regardless if he himself was ambushed.

Yeah, Nice episode. I'm sure this anime will turn out to be awesome as more and more episodes pass by; be it that it may as well reach top 10 here at MAL. Lots of things happened, lots of inner intentions and characters were shown in the episode—whether it be Kiritsugu's grace, Caster's stupidity or Lancer's manliness. All in all, nice episode.

I also liked the animation, as always. UTW is doing an awesome job, I must say.

It was nice to see Kiritsugu's more human side, and his "relationship" with Saber is interesting. The obnoxiously obvious censoring is annoying though...surely this could have been handled better?

So do you prefer obnoxious black bars, obnoxious black mists or white beams of light?

Every censor are obnoxious. Not one censor is better than others. the only thing better is no censor at all.

But I honestly like the ink blot censors from Samurai girls, since it's artistic.

Kiritsugu's development was so rushed and out of place. This was one of the most significant flaw since the airing of the first episode. It could've been done much better with time, but in here, Kiritsugu just says everything straight out, instead of adding depth, complexity and proper dilemmas.

Other than that, I can hear animator suffering for drawing Hg-slime and tentacle monsters.

*High five*

Though yeah, I don't mind the trees, just that the lack of sounds kind of disturbs me.

It's obvious that certain animated scenes are just directly removed out from the footage, which makes it looks more clunky than having the studio doing a condensed version of a long scene.

If I was an animator and my boss told me that I had to make the same scene twice, one risk proof to not get anyone offended in a broadcast, and another where I can do what I'm satisfied with, my viewers being just those who love my work enough to pay for a blueray; I would just do the bare minimum on the censored one too.

You can even tell Saber treats Iri's commands more respectfully than Kiritsugu's. And it's a little interesting the parallels between the relationship of Master/Servant between father and Son as both bersmirched Saber's honor by denying her the option to fight valiantly (Shirou's "she's a girl" excuse is actually revealed to be just an excuse in the VN as he constantly rationalizes why not to use Saber unlike the anime where you just head "you're a girl" over and over). Also, cute how Both Kiritsugu and Emiya are specialist magi with potentially body destructing Reality Marbles.

I would not say Shirou "besmirched" Saber's honor in the same way as Kiritsugu did. Its quite incomprable, imo.

Agreed. IMO that played a huge thematic part in FSN vn. The whole moral conflict of Emiya Shirou between the ideals and reality, representing the three different ways of adolescence and growing up.

Fate/Zero, imo, is a huge insight into those ideals and Kiritsugu emiya himself.

Because of that I actually found him to be a good character in the VN, especially when you take UBW into account, the consequences of what happened when his ideals clashed with reality. I despised him in the anime but he really grew on me(as a character) in the VN.

There is actually one bad ending in Heavens fall where if you choose to save everyone and sacrifice the girl (you know which one) for that, He (you know who) explains how you just became like Kiritsugu was and there is no doubt you will win grail war.

OT, great episode once more. I just love how badass Kiritsugu is, completely ignoring magicians and playing as dirty as it gets :)

Awesome episode! but was that really episode length? dang... i completely lost track of time and before i knew it, it was over. Kiritsigu was bad ass this episode, and the scene with him and Iri was touching, in my opinion it was really deep because it shows how much of his "true" character he is forced to hide. Caster needs to die... and i mean right now, he is officially up there with Zoken for me on the most hated people in Fate/Zero; perhaps even higher after how he killed that kid in front of Saber. Can't wait till the next episode.

Good episode, but... why the hell didn't Kiritsugu shoot Kayneth after using his Time Alter??? And not only once: first in the room where he ran away and then in the hallway where he started shooting AFTER he had yelled ''Kayneth!'' and had given his enemy the opportunity to defend. IDK, maybe I'm missing something here...

It was impossible to hit him thats why. My personal belief is that Kiritsigu was using that gun as a destraction to make Kayneth think that hes defense is perfect. Probably the gun he aimed him in the end of episode is the real deal. Well we will see in the next ep i guess.

I was thinking this too, and if I'm not mistaken the next episode is called "Magus Killer" so it should be good, it makes me wonder though what kind of bullets that gun fires though since it appears to only fires one at a time.

I didn't think the censor was all that bad. Not saying I like my shows to be censored but I don't really mind if it's just when little kids are being killed. Not a huge loss.

The soundtracks keep reminding me of Kara no Kyoukai movie series...

Well, it is a ufotable production...

I got a feeling that Emiya's next shot (New gun) is going to be effective.

This show kinda suffers from what most shonen do... which is not killing someone just like that. *snap finger*. I thought Emiya could potentially bring this sort of element to the story(Looking at his history of bringing plane down for one man, sniper shot etc etc.)

Sigh... Then again... Of course it's not going to happen. I'm not that stupid to actually believe it.

They always have to introduce each other, talk about honor and show each other their "secret move" before one is killed.

Nevertheless, the show have been pretty good ^_^

The visual novel is worth playing, the anime is going to be a BIG let down after you got used to Fate/Zero ufotable quality. I would advice you to watch unlimited blade works movie and see if you like it. If you don't, chances are you wont enjoy the anime either.
Be mindful that fate stay night happens 10 years after Zero, so you will pretty much spoil yourself on what happens. They don't say much about HOW it happens though.
