Spotlight Character: Kotarou Katsura (Gintama) MAL Character Information Page: Kotaro "Zura, Fruits Punch Samurai" Katsura MAL Favorites: 632 For the next week I would like to have everyone familiar with this character discuss what they think makes it an exceptional character. What attributes make it stand out in the ocean of interesting characters that exist in the realms of anime and manga. Unlike the other two subjects I will not force this conversation to fall into any set structure. Characters that are nominated typically get here because they are adept at breaking the existing character moulds and defying definition. Because of this freedom I encourage everyone to do their very best to stay on topic and keep any and all debate civil. | I haven't finished watching Gintama, but aside from his trademark quote, this character didn't leave much impression on me. Maybe he will develop in the next episodes but so far I find this character doesn't has standout trait that worthy to be inducted. I think, there are many other characters from Gintama that much more better than him. Most likely I'll vote no for him. |

| I always felt that our character relations list is way too demanding, because most people in this club seem to need quality character development to consider a certain character induction-worthy. I do not agree with this notion, and I'm going to vote yes for Katsura, because even though he does not receive any development, he is the funniest character on the show, in my opinion. Basically, whenever you find out that there is an episode featuring Katsura, you know for sure that the episode is going to be hilarious because of him, and I don't really often encounter this pattern with other characters. |

Most likely I'll vote no for him. watch one more episode of gintama and you'll most likely think differently, since episode 39 is all about katsura (just watched it myself). To be honest though I think that's not enough to judge Katsura by, but I definitely liked what I saw. He's one of the funniest characters in the show, and also one of the coolest. I couldn't ask for anything more. |
| @BigSimo I've just watched it and yeah I have a better opinion about him now, though tbh it still doesn't convince me to give a yes for him. Maybe this is just a matter of preference but tbh I don't find him really that funny, I mean, sure he is funny, but for me there're other characters that more funnier and interesting than him. Well, episode 39 made me realize that maybe I'm too early to make a decision so I'll be abstaining instead. |

| While Zura is a really funny character sometimes I feel like he lacked the required density to be an exceptional character. Most of the times he did not even have a role at anything, and was just there for no reason at all. I think he's great, but was misused for the most part of the series. May vote yes just for the giggles. Btw, probably thanks to this spotlight I had a dream about Gintama last night. But in my dream Zura was also misused... |

| Zura (even though funny and interesting for the most) is one of the most shallow and repetitive characters of Gintama. He is always there with the same jokes and traits. Elizabeth contributes a lot to the quality of comedy around Zura and in my opinion is a genius plot element but that's beside the point here. At any rate, no matter how much I have laughed at Zura, compared to many other characters of Gintama he seems to be lacking in my opinion. So , No. |
