I think I am burnt out or something, I don't know. All I know is that I am having a hard time watching anime. Like, I used to be able to watch 60 eps of One Piece over a week, and now I can only watch 4 eps before I get really bored. I want to love anime, and I still love Howl's Castle/Spirited Away/etc, but I can't enjoy watching any other series. Gintama, NGE, TTGL, Serial Experiments Lain, HxH, One Piece, Bleach, Naruto, Baccano, and everything else is really boring. I force myself to try more anime, then I get bored. Please, what should I do?

Well done, you've slowly realised that 99% of anime is generic shit. Don't feel bad about this, just focus on looking for shows that are decent, they're few and far between.

Better yet, go outside and do something in the real world. Watch a movie or catch a gig.

Take a break from anime/manga.

Or just focus on genres of anime that you like. So, you like shounens.

...Unfortunately, I can't think of any good shounens.

Also Edge, try Baccano or Ghost in the Shell.

You ask us what to do, to improve your personal feeling towards anime in general?

I think it would be easier to ask for some recommendations, and that includes a list of types you like.
Anyway.. if you really believe you burned out. Go practice another of your hobby's.

You really should just take a break from watching anime. I also did that some time ago. It really helps you. At least for me it was like some miracle. Back then i though:" this is just bullshit" when i started an new anime. Now i watch everything that seems to be interesting and it is really nice :)

Okay here's what you do. You read Baman's or pretty much anyone in the GSTS thread's anime lists and pick a good anime from there.

Sit your boring self down, and force yourself to watch anime. Stop reading reviews and looking at general scores for anime. Oh and throw peoples opinions out the window cause they're crap too.

With that said, go watch Kaiji or Akagi.

That's not true.
It's just that it's easier to say, "GSTS people" (opposed to other long-running thread people) than actually name everyone that I think have good taste.

You watched way too much anime at once and now you've burned yourself out. In your case you set yourself on fire after you doused yourself in gasoline and sat in a tub of gunpowder.

That's not how you're supposed to watch anime. You're supposed to pace yourself with your anime. I make it a point to set aside days when I'll marathon an anime (weekends) and watch a couple episodes on weekdays. I've suffered three burnouts and they felt terrible. I realized the worst thing I could do is force myself to watch anime.

Well i wouldnt agree that it happens to all ppl, i remember back in the days when i watched 200 ep of One Piece in like 2 weeks and i didnt get burnt out.

But yeah to the OP it seems like it happend in your case, i say take a break or just watch 1-2 ep a day dont force it, cuz whats the point if u dont enjoy it.

Anime is ment to be enjoyed and if u dont enjoy it anymore then quit for a while 1 month 2 months maybe half a year, then try it again.

"item x is boring" is what all typical kids do when they try to act cool.
If you don't like anime, it's obvious this hobby isn't for you.

CONGRATULATIONS
Now quit bitching about how everything is crap (thats what emo fags say) and find other shit you enjoy.

oh and grow up. There are actually groups of people who enjoy accordions and polka. Hell there are actually men who like men! Point is, people have different tastes and if you only listen to the people like to shit on other peoples tastes you are just as guilty as being a douche as them.

Huh? Reading reviews is a good way to understand if you're going to enjoy watching that anime or not. I'm all for trying new things, and I generally do. But if I'm looking for something entertaining or something I have no intention of wasting time on, I'll check out a few user/"professional" reviews of series I would like to view.

Except the majority of them are either extremely biased or are completely useless and don't even do a good job of convincing me to check a series out more then what i did when reading the synopsis, better yet they'll throw major spoilers in the review with no warnings. I've ran across one person's reviews that was actually good here.
By this i'm talking about MAL.

In general i could careless for reviews, I'm sure there is some good reviews out there on other site, but it's more enjoyable for me to check an anime out without any expectations then to go into one with high ones and be let down or the opposite.

I try to make unbiased reviews :(
My average review score is 6/10. And I would think my 6th place ranking would count.

Also, for the most part, try to not read just one guys review, Read a good review and then read a bad review it usually tells what things are about in that specific anime. Also, some of those that have a higher "helpful" score than others are typically because the MAL user base votes on it because they score high. As for me im guilty on only about 4 titles. But as you will see, the #1 review for each title is typically the higher scored review.

Go out and exercise. Instead of watching anime, watch reality TV, sitcoms, and MTV. Boycott watching anime for a few months. When you go back, only watch titles which are of actual interest and don't get into the watching anime for the sake of watching anime routine because that IS boring.

I get this problem sometimes as well. It usually goes away if you don't watch anime for a few weeks or months. With most anime now days I have trouble watching more than 5 episodes a day. There is only a handful of anime I've actually watched where I sat down and watched like 12 or more episodes a day. Just find one you will really like watching.

I would definitely take a break. I remember when I was younger, I could watch episode after episode and then watch movies and so on all day for DAYS but now I can't handle it. I have to get up and have a break for an hour or two after watching a straight couple hours of episodes or movies. I just get burnt out.

Sometimes I go a week or a couple weeks or so without it until I crave to get back into it again. There's no sense in forcing yourself to continue. I've done it, just to finish a series and get it out the way, but there's no fun in that and I usually wind up disliking it or rewatching it when I'm more carefree or in a better mood. Anime is entertainment, so you should enjoy it. No worries. It'll still be waiting for you.

This. And all of the ones you watched are pretty much from the same genres. Action, shounen, seinen. Maybe that's why you're getting bored. Try switching to romance, comedy, shoujo, etc. Go to the Recommendations board for suggestions.

Dude, that's actually pretty possible. I burned out when I first started because I was forcing myself through the crappy episodes of anime on TV.

I had a burnout over the weekend, but I'm okay now. I actually looked forward to watching FMA: Brotherhood because I was out all day. Maybe that's how I should watch anime now.

I agree with this. Also you should branch out and explore different genres. It keeps you from getting bored and expands what you like. For example I like horror anime but from time to time I will watch and action or a romance to keep from getting bored.

Watching anime is like reading books and playing video games. Sometimes you have to take that gamble on a new title to find something worth it.
