| Loving all the references to past Macross anime. This show is very reminiscent of the original SDF Macross and I mean that in a good way. Thoroughly enjoying this so far. Ranka is cute but I have a feeling that Sheryl will be my favorite girl by the end of the series. |

| Alto's father "rejected" him because he played a princess in kabuki? xD Isn't it normal for men to play women's roles there? The theme that plays during previews (was also there during the test flight) sounds like something inspired by, if not outright borrowed from, Macross Plus Boob physics is paid a lot of attention to here, I see... Now we also have a giant loli Zentradi as part of the cast Can't say I didn't have a huge smile on my face when I heard that "Kyun Kyun"... And I love how Ranka's mic was shaking before the performance, she was so nervous! Seems like the contest's results were affected by Leon's discussion with the other guy...it's the third time he's shown to know something about Ranka P.S. Alto's 25 deaths during the training are likely a reference to the fact that Macross F aired during the 25th anniversary of the franchise. P.P.S. Macross wiki mentions that Ranka took the 2nd place but I don't think it was mentioned anywhere. |

| Every time I'm about to have a solid opinion about Macross Frontier, something always happens that throws me for a loop. I like that both Alto and Ranka were undergoing their own tests of character simultaneously, but it sucks that neither could be present to support each other. "My Boyfriend is a Pilot" seems to be a timeless song, huh. Also wow, Frontier really cranked it up in the T&A department. The art and animation is pretty good, with a contrast between the CGI work with Alto's dogfights and the 2D style of Ranka's dancing. I kind of miss the streams of missiles flying in older Macross titles, but the updated 3D missiles still look okay. With Ranka, my usual qualifier for good anime dance performances are how well hair and clothes can be animated. There were a lot of fast cuts, but while Ranka's hair was drawn mostly as a singular blob, her body and clothes definitely had a lot of fluidity to them. Also wow, Klan Klan is certainly a character. |
