North America only, how much fail. I can't even watch the trailers on Youtube.

I don't get who they're even aiming these at, since there won't be a dub and America loves them some dubs. International subs and/or American dubs would make so much more sense to me but at least this is a step in the right direction, Japanese companies taking care of internationalNorth American sales themselves.

Yes. This is great news!

I personally don't care too much for dubs, though I'll watch them if I want to. I own all of Gurren Lagann that was released as subs only on DVD.

Gurren Lagann bilingual DVD release that Bandai did sold horribly, mostly because it came out months after the sub-only release was finished. It was pretty much derailed by the early adopters and people who wanted to own the series fast and cheap. Its completely understandable position to release these movies sub-only and in a limited outlet.

Gurren Lagann, despite being popular on the webs and Japan, was a total flop here.

I was going by the prevalent opinion over at ANN, where the people who had bought the dubs said they wouldn't buy the movies if they were sub only. I would love some hard numbers though, where can I find those?

I don't really care whether it got licensed or not, since I could just watch the subs online. Still, this is pretty good news for the Gurren fans in North America.

Too bad the movies aren't nearly as good as the series.

Pretty much.

They are open to the idea of BD, but since no BD exists in Japan. Also, it wasn't animated in HD according to the director about a year ago, which is awfully strange for something so recent.

It's a no-go for now.

Obviously.

As a fan of the dub, no dub=no buy. I bought the series bilingual too.

Its a step in the right move at least, with Aniplex wanting to actually sell their animes themselves. It'll be interesting to see what the other 5 titles they intend to release are. Too bad they're unlikely to make it to Australia, whose anime market is... well, =s.

Nah, the second movie gutted the series of its substance in favor of pure flash.

It also decided to hint at rape in an ambiguously fanservicey manner.

Aniplex in the US, huh?

That rises the chance of a US Bakemonogatari release, no? :3
