| Probably the worst stage in the evolution of anime faces was the big eye moe craze that went on through the 2000s. My lord I cringed everytime I saw those faces. |

| The faces, especially the hair become less clearer from the 70's onwards, That means the designs become more varied. Also damn Female eyes were big af in the 2000's |

| the short answer is that art got more simplistic over the years, it's faster and easier to draw. that and they just look cuter with these features. moe sells. "big eyes invoke empathy in the viewers" I noticed how off the rails things got when I watched gotoubun and bokuben. can't shake the feeling since. |
