So my guess was right, Nina was Johan's (or whatever his real name is =P) twin sister.
Also, I think there reason why Johan only killed couples without kids, was because he probably didn't want the kids to suffer, like his sister did.

This drama is becoming a bit melodramatic. Why is it in most anime that we have to hear everyone's thoughts, in slow motion, when they see someone they recognize? Can't life just be shown the way it really is?

I'm not sure what you mean, so far this show is much more sophisticated than most anime i've seen. And how else are we supposed to know what Nina was thinking in that situation?

By showing it through her actions, her subtle expressions of emotions, you know. Well I guess i shouldn't complain so much, since most anime is much, much worse.

It's just a way to show her thoughts, it wouldn't have the same effect if it just played the scene in normal speed. She's like, "Hey, I know him from somewhere... but where?"

I just hope Johan will die within the next 3 or 4 episodes and NOT be a recurring evil guy for the entire 74 episodes of the anime.

That said, this episode was really nice.

Watch Now and Then, Here and There. You never hear one persons inner thoughts the entire time, and it has a hell of a lot of drama, but it's never overbaord. Exellent series.

Anyway this episode was ok. I like how we learned about Johan's sister a little bit. She seems like a nice person. Although I was kinda disapointed we jumped into the future again, leaving us hanging for what connects the last episode and this one perfectly...

It seems that Johan/Michael/Franz is quite the psychopath, and a frickin genius.
Nina is obviously his sister and it seems that Tenma is finally beginning his detective campaign to solve this mystery. It seems that he had quit his job, as to find out more about Johan. He is probably really confused right now. And broken. He saved the life of a real monster psychopath.
Nina still has an amnesia as it was mentioned in previous episodes. But it appears that she is starting to regain her memories after seeing/experiencing certain symbols referencing to the tragedy that happened 9 years ago.
No sig :(

It took me about the time until she got the second mail to realize that she was the twin. I love the feeling of achievement you get for the simplest things.

I enjoyed the rest of the episode; still trying to figure out if Tenma will get her first or not.

lol that's awesome... Anyways Nina is so screwed, Why was she not scared the time she got that first email btw, I mean personally I don't think getting a random email from somebody you don't know is very romantic, in fact its pretty flipping scary and I don't think I'm missing the whole romantic bit because I'm a guy either, getting emails like that is signs of a stalker, not exactly something to find romantic.

I felt stupid when the old man announced he was blind.
Decent episode, Doctor Tenma now playing detective will be an interesting contrast to his profession as a doctor.

Okay so this was a peaceful episode and no bad thing in this once slowly story progressing.

About Episode:

So this Nina is the same girl who was in wheelchair. And obviously Johan is looking for her. Nina is also really popular and beautiful girl. But she is too sensitive because she collapsed too many times already. I wonder how Nina is going to accept that she is adopted.

Looks like Johan was mastermind of languages and only 12-year old boy. That's something for so young talented boy. That old man who served Tenma tea was nice and I think Johan had something to do with that he is blind. So Johan enjoys terror and people in fear. Obviously mark for Psycho.

Still it seems Nina is getting his memories back like she had amnesia they talked about. Getting random emails sure is scary but it could also mean that Johan loves Nina and don't want to hurt here.

So good to see this episode had Tenma also I think first this was a filler episode with this Nina girl past.

So Tenma is now detective and not doctor anymore I guess he quit the job for getting to know more about Johan.

So Johan is known as Franz and Michael so many fake names. Scary part was that Johan was just looking Nina and when Nina saw him. She just collapsed on the ground. Let's hope that Tenma is going to meet that girl in next ep.

Good one

Better and better. Her brother is real monster. I just hope she survives I kinda like her. But I suspect suffering soon.

And I like the fact that this anime doesn't have even smalest bit of filler in it. Every scene is important.

I like the pace since it's keeping up the mystery. This is turning out to be really interesting. Not much to say other than it'll be interesting to see how Dr. Tenma will act once he finds the younger sister. He also has had his perspective broken last episode so will he feel that all lives aren't equal or stick to his original view?

So Nina is the twin girl!!

i freaking knew it was Mamiko Noto as soon as i heard her voice!!

but for some reason she sounds waaay to young and doesn't have her fully angelic accent yet :P

though she's more energetic here so that's good!!

she's probably the only smart one in her class :P

she does feel uneasy whenever she dwells on her past.

Tenma becaming a detective is cool!!

is it just me or is the old man the father of Junker(Yonker?) the one that got shot in the head last episode.

i actually thought they were talking about him, but it seems it was Michael(Johan) instead.

and lol he was actually blind, didn't noticed it, though he did stand idle when he invited Tenma.

next episode is gonna be sweet!!!!

It was a good episode. A sort of disappointing one though.

The characters voicing their thoughts thing got a little annoying here. If only, because it's unnecessary. And I'm talking in special about the e-mail scene and the psychiatrist commenting on Nina. So far, the inner monologues were brought as a way to build something that wasn't obvious from the action. Since Tenma's surface is always confident and reliable, through his inner thoughts we could know the hidden aspect of his personality. In this episode, this was unnecessary in these two scenes. We perceive that there is something wrong about Nina before the psychiatrist says that, and the e-mail scene turned quite artificial to me.

On the other hand, maybe it's just that the mystery of Nina was too obvious from the beginning. And I wasn't too fond of Tenma playing the detective, I guess my biggest issue is that this episode breaks the linearity of the series that so far was perfectly tied to Tenma. In this episode I feel like I missed a piece of development for its main character.

Damn, it's so hard to criticize this series. Even with the occasional misstep I still feel too hyped.

I actually really liked the feel of this episode to be honest. Hanna added a nice element to the anime after seeing such ugly female characters like... Eva. LOL

Oh and I thought it was pretty damn obvious she was the twin sister... That was a no-brainer.

Its not that big of a surprise that Nina is Johans/Franz/Michaels sister, but that agrement Franz made with Ninas step Mother and father ... how the f*** did he do that? He mastered 2 languages in 14 months ... are you kidding me!? Now hes coming to get Nina, okay but what for? Some evil plans or just to see how shes doing (i think he knows exactly how shes doin) ...

I think it was pretty obvious that the girl was Johan's twin sister. The tone was slightly more upbeat in the beginning, which was refreshing. Seeing Tenma investigate was interesting as well. I can't help but wonder why the police wouldn't have already done this (assuming they haven't).

The amnesia part seemed believable. Children tend to forget traumatic events as a coping mechanism. There's likely a subconscious desire to not remember what happened.

It's actually quite possible to become fluent in a language in around six months if you devote a few hours to it each day. If we assume Johan is a prodigy, then learning two languages in fourteen months is an impressive, but doable feat. I'm a bit skeptical about the "mastering" bit, though. There's a big difference between speaking another language with ease and having total mastery over another language.

Edit: Even months later, I find myself correcting typos. >.>;

It wasn't a very good episode at first but it really picked up towards the end.

It was pretty obvious that Nina was Johan's sister and the person emailing Nina was Johan himself.

I'm still unsure why Johan only murders middle-aged couples without children.

Looks like Tenma may be too late to save Nina from Johan's wrath.

A tad bit slow at the beginning, but did anyone else notice that the old man who served Tenma tea made the exact same gesture with his hand as in another of Urasawa's later works, Pluto, there a similar looking old man makes the exact same gesture with the hand but this time says 'that'll cost you 500 Ronz' which is a constant flashback that the main character Gesicth has, nice little easter egg to find.

Poor Nina, I love her already. I can't stop thinking about why is she not injured 9 years ago? Maybe she saw her brother killing her parents in front of her eyes and then she shot him? I guess this is most likely explaining her memory loss.

And I wonder what is doctor Tenma's plan, what is he going to do after knowing the boy's real identity?

So Johan is basically a genius sociopath. Seems he goes around killing his previous foster parents also if I payed attention correctly. I wonder if his actions are based on how you treat him? Show him love like Dr Tenma or the old man did and he will not harm you but treat him poorly or become a hindrance and he eliminates your life.
