Spotlight Character: Black Jack (Black Jack) MAL Character Information Page: Kuro "Black Jack, Chenchei, Space Jack" Hazama MAL Favorites: 91 For the next week I would like to have everyone familiar with this character discuss what they think makes it an exceptional character. What attributes make it stand out in the ocean of interesting characters that exist in the realms of anime and manga. Unlike the other two subjects I will not force this conversation to fall into any set structure. Characters that are nominated typically get here because they are adept at breaking the existing character moulds and defying definition. | I know this will sound weird, but I really love this character even though the only appeaance of him that I've ever watched was in Ray, the Animation (and therefore I can't vote out of emotion yay) I'd like to atch the rest, but there are so many things that I'm lost concerning what to watch first. xD Maybe another project, for when I finish up with Gundam................ |

| What can I say, he's one of my all time favourites. His whole demeanor is just Tezuka to the point where I definitely buy the rumour that he's supposed to be a stand in for the man himself and fashioned as the type of doctor he would have hoped to become (don't know how many people know he was a med school graduate) if he hadn't taken up the profession of a manga author in the end. Of course with the fantasy that manga awards him that is. Still even as surreal a character as Blackjack is he's also very down to earth in the way that he not only solves the medical mystery of the week with real medical science (there are exceptions though) but gives the patient and the reader something to think about in the process, usually regarding the theme of the value of life being far greater than any material wealth. That is a definite winner of a plot point for me. Blackjack, the character and the manga just goes to show how you can have a formulaic concept and still keep coming out with something new and inspiring each and every arc. |
| I love this character because he is mysterious and this makes him so special. He hides a lot. And as a doctor he is my perfect doctor. I would want to be treated by him. |
