Meh, if anyone here haven't play the game yet and watches the anime - do yourself a favor and play the game first. There are DS emulators that can run it perfectly.

I'm sort of in the middle with this episode. I found it fun as a fan but it's not fully sold to me yet.

But, this is the first episode. If I learnt anything over the years, never judge on the first episode.

It's popular because the games are really well done but the adaptation is bad, it could have been a lot better but A-1 screwed up. They only used remixes of two soundtracks from the game and didn't use the best soundtrack of the first game.

They'll probably use them in the next cases, it's only the first episode.

I hope they'll use it, I would be disappointed if they won't. I thought they would already use it in episode 1 as it is used during the first case (and every other case) in the game. But in general, the OST was disappointing so far, they only used the cross examination OST and the objection OST. Everything else wasn't from the game :/

I think, the EP was ok. not actually a masterpiece, but just a fine show, though. I liked the re-arrangeration of objection and cross-examination themes. Ending is in a little bit lower level than opening, I think. One thing disliked: THE ANIMATION. Just like in an old shounen- anime show from the beginning of this century.

After so many years, they finally made a Phoenix Wright, er, Gyakuten Saiban anime. Really wonder why they took so long to get to it.

I think it's nice to have it now since the games play in 2016.

The episode was okay, I'm fine with it. I have no real issues with the voice acting but the animation could have been much better. The OST is nothing memorable but I couldn't help but grin when Objection 2001 was played. Lokking forward to Pursuit ~ Cornered.
The pacing could have been handled better but they had to stuff everything into the first episode, otherwise it would have been weird. All in all, I found this episode acceptable but at the same time I'm expecting it to improve in the future.

The animation is absolute garbage compared to the work Studio Bones did for the 5th and 6th game, Typical A1 Pictures low budget low effort, kinda reminds me of Persona 4.
Please do yourself a favor and don't let your first experience with the series be this shit.

Basically this. I'm staying optimistic that having a full length case might allow for a better pace.

It was Watchable? felt like they rushed it but this is essentially the "tutorial" case if I recall correctly so the pace could sort itself out now.

Don't think the VA suits Ryuuichi.

Only done the first 2 cases in the game so need to get back to it, don't plan on sticking with the Anime when/if it goes past what I've played.

Music, the story, the quirky characters, finding the way to proving your client not guilty. The games are pretty great.

Actually how you describe it seems to be my problem with episode 1 of the anime. The first episode misses some things. I'm not a fan of the pacing much, nor the OST. I don't know. Maybe I've spoiled myself listening to the video game and orchestrated OSTs to the point where anything new doesn't sound good.

Whether OST or animation, I feel like the The First Turnabout does not give off the feeling of a threat, it's not made out to be any type of danger to anyone.
I know it's the first case, it's suppose to be easy, but even when you play the case, there is a sense of urgency to prove it. It does not feel lame because it's designed to not feel lame. There are tonal shifts. One minute it's goofy, and then it gets serious.
To me, it feels kinda glossed over. The frame is there for The First Turnabout, but the feeling isn't there. Even Naruhodos dorkiness seems hollow.

Not a big fan of the Japanese names. Would've much preferred that they subbed the localised names.

As expected the tutorial case was extremely simple. Looking forward to some of the later cases.

I'm sad that we didn't get to see Phoenix get a toupee chucked in his face.

RIP Mia?

In terms of pacing, I feel that was because it a more of an introductory episode to the format for the newer audience, also the ingame court case vs real time is very different, so it would of course be definitely be faster. I do hope that they will slow down the pacing for the next Turnabouts. Which I do believe that is what they are gonna do especially if they plan to cut each case into 2-3 episode per case.

Now the OST was okay, the gavel sound wasn't like the sound in the games, but that's just me nitpicking at smaller details. Otherwise the ost fit like in the games.

The ending song was great, I liked it. Anyways cheers to the next episode. Otherwise we would have to shout and posture ourselves to the alike "OBJECTION!" if it fucks up.

Honestly, it was better than I expected, though I'm extremely dissapointed at the OST. I'd rather they just remixed the OST from the games, and maybe had a couple original tracks. The pacing also felt really weird to me, but hopefully it gets better for the more serious cases. And hey, the Butz was pretty funny too I thought

I don't know if it was the animation or the OST but I never felt any sort of urgency like we do in the game. This is going to be hard to watch for the ones who are new to the series.

And as somebody said, in the anime it somehow looks a very easy case to solve. Maybe because we have to solve it ourselves in the game, but no can't really say it captured the feel well enough..

A disappointing start. I hope it gets better later on.

Hopefully. My issues aside, the opening, iffy on song, very happy with imagery. As for the ending, I like it, though find its placement right after showing Mia's fate very awry.

Also, did they play a variation on cross examination moderato? All I heard was Allegro and Phoenix's Objection theme. Both which I feel is kind of weak, but oh well.

It looks a bit low budget, but it was quite a pleasant surprise. A-1 actually did a great job adapting the prologue, and even captured the spirit of the game. Of course they skipped some filler dialogue, but I thought people knew you can't keep every single line from a game/VN/book? Honestly it would've been pretty bad if the prologue took two episodes, it's not even that important, it's just a tutorial for the game.

I was a bit disappointed that the OST was mostly new, but they still kept the important songs. It's good to have a mix of new and old, rather than being completely new, or just lazy and using everything from the game. The new songs kind of fit well in the franchise. They'll probably use more of the game's OST, like Pursuit, but it would be more fitting for the end of Turnabout Sisters, than using such a great song for the tutorial case.

As someone that has never played or seen the game, I didn't mind Yuki Kaji's voice at all tbh although I think that maybe they could have gotten someone more fitting

The episode itself wasn't bad at all and I liked the way the case unraveled and seeing Pheonix and his chief work together was nice.....I felt bad for his friend though...Now he's all alone with the woman he loves :(

Art and animation were okay, the OP was also okay but that ED was really good....Decent start to the series and I'm very curious to see the next episode because seeing that the Chief is dead shocked the hell out of me and made me sad TwT

I found it to be almost just as i'd imagined it, maybe a bit off on the choice of voice actor for the MC, but otherwise, good. Animation was a bit choppy but, the style does remind me of how the game was, although I would've preferred if it was a bit less roundish but that's just my taste. Great Tutorial episode, I think they're planning on doing a very faithful adaptation!

Animation's alright. Not bad, but not really that great either.

I wish they'd used some tracks from the games in the OST though...the cross examination music would have been great to hear again.

Also kinda wish whoever subbed it would switch the names with the ones from the English game. It's gunna be a bitch to learn all these new names. ;c Plus all the puns in the names were golden. April May, Will Powers, Wendy Oldbag....aw well.

Still super excited though. Can't wait for the next ep. :D Maya!! <3

Okay, so Naruhodo's first client is his own childhood friend. Good guy at heart and it looks like a pretty skilled craftsman for making that "Thinker" statue" but bad at both luck and attitude.
It seems to get serious, at least until Naruhodo saying something about that contradiction thing. Yup, to learn more about attorney but not to be so serious all the time... IT'S A KEEPER.

Okay, this was plain bad. I don't know any of the source material, but an adaptation has to be able to stand on it's own legs. I don't know if it's a good adaptation, but it was a bad episode. The charactes are annoying, the humor doesn't work and the pacing is totally off.

It was perfect, seriously, there was like one scene that was a bit different than in the game, if they keep this up, this is going to be an amazing adaptation, I really like the fact that they also implanted the cross examination and objection theme from the game as well.

Well you have to realize this is the first case in the first Phoenix Wright game. It starts off with a very easy case to teach you the basics. They'll get much more intense from here on out, with much better characters. I highly recommend you give the second episode a watch, at least. c:

Okay I honestly didn't even notice the cross examination theme. It was the one from the first game, I assume? That's the only one I really know like the back of my hand. It must have been quite different from the original, cause I went back to the court scenes after I finished watching it, and even listening for it, I couldn't pick it out.

-TBH the setting and the 1st case was very well adapted, because it was the tutorial case, even if it was a bit rushed.
-The voice acting was meh it felt off.
