While most people are focusing on the "sad"...

Angry:
Wake Up, Girls! episode 2... made me rage like none other. A 5/5 episode for that... don't want to spoil it.

Happy:
Basically all of AKB0048, but especially the suspense around the elections in season 2. I know how it goes, but it still gets me every time. It's the only anime to ever give me tears of joy.

My 10s, 9s, and most of my 8s, but that's 800 things I'm not bothering to list, because it'll take forever.

K-ON gave me all sorts of emotions and while it was quite bittersweet at times it never once became outright depressing. I've re-watched episode 20 and 24 of season 2 more times than I can count but they still get me every time. No melodrama, no emotional manipulation, no pessimism, no death and suffering, just a group of highschool girls in a situation basically anyone can relate to going through all the emotions that people in their situation would typically feel.

The pacing and drama fell a little flat at times in season 1, but season 2 of Love Live was just fantastic. I can't recall a single show I watched as it aired that I eagerly awaited the next episode with as much anticipation as I did with Love Live S2.

Grave of the Fireflies on the other hand was deeply, deeply depressing like nothing else I've ever seen especially because the story itself is semi autobiographical. It's not a situation that's manufactured by a team of writers with the sole intention of being a tearjerker. It's a large scale tragedy that actually happened in real life which makes its overall message about the horrors of war all the more poignant.

And of course if we're talking about the shows that conjure up a whole variety of emotions you can't forget Cowboy Bebop. One moment I'm full of excitement watching an amazing action sequence, the next I'm getting really emotionally invested learning about the Bebop crew's pasts, the next I'll be laughing my ass off watching Spike trip on mushrooms, it's just so amazing.

Right now it would be Shigatsu Wa Kimi No Uso. It's hitting all the marks, both the happy and the sad.

Kokoro Connect's exploration of friendship under duress was powerful to me. That is probably the biggest one, though lots of anime have to varying degrees fiddled with my chords.

One Piece, Chrno Crusade, Cowboy Bebop (ending), Black Lagoon (Japan/Hensel&Gretel arc), Grave of the Fireflies, Gantz (FUCK THE PROTAGONIST), Kekkaishi (you know the part if you have seen it), Fullmetal Alchemist, and Berserk are some that I can think off right now.

Strangely, Kimi to Boku, Hanasaku Iroha and especially Honey and Clover seems to have impacted me more, though I can honestly say the only anime I've cried watching (a bit. Was more of a tear) was Tokyo Magnitude 8.0

Little Busters
Kanon
Myself; Yourself
Air
Yosuga no Sora
Fairy Tail
Rumbling Hearts

All of these share the impressive award of making me cry. Something that's not easily accomplished.

And Fate/Stay Night as an honorable mention for giving me feels but not enough to make me cry. (obviously, I'm referring to the one that has already ended and doesn't neglect 90% of it's characters).

We've all watched that one anime that has struck an emotional chord with us. What I mean by that is; making us electively laugh, cry, get angry, worried etc; towards the characters within the anime.

Which anime was that for you, and why?

for me, it was Clanand. It still is to this day! Clannad was the first anime I ever watched, and I'm really thankful towards my boyfriend who had shown it to me when we first met (we watched it together).

Towards the end of Clannad (without giving any spoilers) I felt really emotional (and if you've seen Clannad, you'll know why)

So, what about you?

Most of my favorites. :}

I'd have to say Clannad/After Story and Air (I love Key. Sue me.). Those are at least the ones where I got the most emotionally involved. And also Eureka Seven. It didn't exactly make me cry, but there were definitely some feels felt.

Way too many to name, but the lead up to the "Morning Glory" episode of E7, culminating in that one, certainly comes to mind. As does Ikari's realization in the finale to Paranoia Agent.

Also:
Byousoku 5 Centimeter for the heartbreak sadness and realism
Clannad: After Story for the (damn good) melodrama
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (cried when
when I was 12)
Code geass in general
Higurashi made me really sad a some point during the 2nd season
Mushishi really calmed me down after a stressful day (a bit of a chore to marathon and I which I had watched them sparely now as I really liked watching it weekly)
Steins;Gate was simply awesome and good emotional dilemmas
Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu, bits about haruhi's past really struck and emotional chord with me at a young and impressionable age
Zankyou no Terror made me tear up when I saw

Anime is good, fucking deal with it.

Honey and Clover. I was a university student just like the main characters, so I felt identified with some of the topics and feelings shown. Characters were very relatable and the plot was really realistic.
That was the anime that made me start watching anime again, after a long hault.

This applies to a couple of my higher rated shows, but in particular, I'm unable to watch Aria, Haibane Renmei, the first episode of Hanasaku Iroha, or the last six episodes of The iDOLM@STER for this reason.

Cowboy Bebop when Spike died is the most prevalent example. The epitome of episodism at its painful best.

But I've had similar emotional experiences with Mirai Nikki and Fairy Tail.
