 Before I even started watching Naruto I actually though this char was like an upgraded version of Naruto himself. But man, this character was amazing, even if it was used as a doll at the end. |

| Obito, but he's hardly an Akatsuki by the time he gets fleshed out, but his backstory is so edgy, I just like it. I need to be hip and not join the Itachi wankfest, but he also gets a lot of respect from me as well and is better done than Obito. |

| Itachi. The guy is a master spy, assassin, mastered the normal sharingan at 8 , became anbu captain when he was only 13 and has been praised by both Orochimaru (a sanin) and Hiruzen (a hokage). I think if Itachi didn't have the disease and had EMS he would rival Madara back in the day. |

| You are missing the point, he is the one who founded it, and was the leader (even though he didn't want to be). Before the Akatsuki became a group/organizations of criminals in the search for the tailed beasts. You don't remember Nagato's flashback? |

| @Tsud, I know the purpose for what Akatsuki was created at first and what was its aim in second place (after Yahiko's death and the gathering of all S-ranked missing-nin to form the criminal organisation, it then became). I was refering to the 'Akatsuki' as an organisation, not distinguishing from the two phases. Different story if the OP was refering only to the Akatsuki post-yahiko's-death. In that case I would agree with you (and him). |
