Modern society would say no, sex is not sacred. It is a trivial thing, to be done casually on a whim for pleasure and with anyone any time one feels like it. Sex is a recreational thing, or so today's culture would have us believe.

I was taught something rather different. I could go into a good deal of depth here, but let's just say that having grown up in a very religious environment, I was taught that sex between man and wife is a mirror of the relationship between God and man.

In summation:

Sex is permissible within the boundaries of matrimony only
Sex should involve the "forsaking of all others"
Sex is permissible between a man and a woman only
Sex should never be withheld by either partner in the marriage

You can see how drastically this differs from the norms of society.

... As for my personal opinion on the matter, let's just say I'm a man torn between two worlds sometimes. I'll leave it at that.

I actually agree with that. If I marry, I'd want to dedicate myself to that person for my whole life. Something like remarrying in case of premature passing away of my partner wouldn't even come to my mind.
