| Very very very happy with these two episodes. The fact that the prediction that Maruo made failed but still did mental damage is why Baby Steps is so good. I find it's genuine and honestly focused on improvement and the competitive mindset over hype. Seeing all of Maruo's hard work from the past year come into play including what he learned from Takuma was incredibly satisfying. I adored how tsundere Takuma smirked after Maruo did his bait technique. Even if the fast pacing can make the story feel a bit unnatural, the way it captures improvement through it is masterful. |
| Good episode to conclude a tight match between Maruo and Miyagawa, although the finish definitely was a hail mary one given the reflexes and luck involved. Still, it felt like Maruo matured and grew as a player massively from this one game alone. Playing competitively against top 5 level opposition of the tournament really does showcase the growth of his skills as a tennis player a lot more than his previous opponents. Sucks that Miyagawa got unlucky with that loss but given how momentum was going in that final game, it was really writing on the wall that he would be unsuccessful in this match. |
| Matches might be exciting but the animation certainly isn't it. If this is them going all out then...holy hell...they need an animation training montage to power up shounen style. |
