Firstly when Krillin and Gohan-chan along with the saved Dende managed to trick him and escape from his evil clutches and then Vegeta really wned him killing the poor fat guy.. I dun remember exactly how he died in the original... but what I remember is that he was always a coward useless bastard... Well done Vegeta-sama!! Dispatching the fat alien that's just robbing screen time to you hahahah... So... He already knows it huh? Next ep will be awesome for sure Signs, Green |

| Nice ep, Dodoria's defeat was to be expected, especially after begging for his life, like any other pussy would do! This series has a good pace to it, Freeza saga is already hitting its climax more or less. |

| finally that dodoria killed off, couldn't stand his attitude and appearance, i actually think that though vegeta says he really don't care about the vegeta planet, there's a good reason for frieza to not tell him that considering vegeta's personality. |

| This was my favorite episode of Dragon Ball Z yet! I remembered most of the Saiyan Saga, I owned it on DVD since I was very young, but as for Namek, I'm not sure if I've ever seen the whole thing! That novelty of not knowing the order of events, or many of them at all, is super exciting. This episode was a showcasing of that, paired with the rather unpredictable set up Toriyama put together, with the many variables moving around the planet with one shared goal. To get a bit deeper into why this was my favorite, it comes down to the Gohan and Krillin scenes during the first half of the episode specifically. The delightfully racist and evil aristocrat Frieza commanding the slaughter of native aliens and children is already a terrifying scene but it went much further than I expected. We were given a terrifying display of what Frieza and his mooks are capable of. "Well if you'd rather die than help, I can oblige." When Frieza threatened the children's lives in front of the elder to extract information, I believed he would go through with it, but the shocking and unhesitating shot fired by Dodoria, past the elder, into the back of one of the children genuinely made my jaw drop for the first time. It was horrifying, and before the last surviving child's eyes, Dodoria snapped the neck of the elder who was trying to protect them in a frighteningly grotesque fashion, a far more human execution method than ripping holes through people with punches. It's rare to make the audience feel the suffering of civilians in anime, but this scene did that with the two-prong value of characterizing Frieza and his men. Of course, Gohan charging in disregarding Krillin's fear and pragmatism, forcing Krillin to back up his best friend's son and face off against an enemy exceedingly more powerful than they are with wits rather than strength was exhilarating. When Krillin almost dropped the child, I realized I was worried for its sake for two reasons. The suffering we just felt it go through, and the fact that if he were to fall, our heroes would be risking their lives for nothing. Brilliant scene. Vegeta's moment at the end was cool, choosing to pick off Frieza's powerful men one at a time like a horror movie monster, and holding himself to such a high standard. He was mad at himself for not knowing better, more than anyone else, and he turned Frieza genociding the Saiyans into a moment of pride; for even the mighty Frieza trembles at what the saiyans are capable of. |
