Paniz, Splitting these old entries will most likely confuse users who have them on their lists. We would rather not split them at this point. The total number of episodes is correct. Maybe I'll add a note about last episodes being a recaps, and how they were released. That should suffice. |

Maybe you should go with the "it's part of the official episode count... kinda" excuse, still, DVD exclusive recaps are just asking for their own entry. Actually, there seems to be a special that's not here: http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Sh%C5%ABta_and_Grand%27s_Masterforce_Super-Secrets! (there are 42 episodes + 5 recaps + this one = 48) So this could be a good opportunity to move those episodes here too. Actually, that seems to have been included in the DVD version of episode 47 (I guess it'd still get another entry though, weird, uh? A DVD special of a DVD special...), doesn't seem like it aired on TV though (episode 47 did air on TV, while the other 4 recaps didn't). |

Once again, since there's no description box on the DB modification page, I'll leave here the source/proofs for the "Add Source" info I've submitted. Hopefully this reduces mod's workload and the need to manually check every one of them. Series - Source - e.g/proof Kannagi - Manga - www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2008-02-05/kannagi-supernatural-comedy-manga-gets-tv-anime True Tears (and related entries) - Original - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/True_Tears_%28anime%29 Note: This is a common misconception and I've seen both reviews and news sites listing True Tears as a VN adaptation. This is incorrect. There is indeed a VN published with the same name, however this is nothing but a coincidence. True Tears was P.A.Works debut original anime, written by Mari Okada in collaboration with 3 other storyboard directors. Tari Tari - Original http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2012-03-19/p.a-works-to-animate-tari-tari-tv-anime-series https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tari_Tari#Anime Hanasaku Iroha - Original (celebrating P.A.Works 10th anniversary) http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2010-08-01/p.a-works-hana-saku-iroha-previewed-with-promo-video Ookami to Koushinryou (and related) - LN This is pretty obvious. Based Hasekura-sensei Key/Visual Art's stuff: Air (KyoAni) (and related) - VN Kanon (2006) - VN Clannad (TV) (and related) - VN https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Key_video_games Gunslinger Girl - Manga https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gunslinger_Girl#Anime Makoto Shinkai works:5cm/s, Beyond the Clouds, Hoshi no Koe, Hoshi wo ou Kodomo, Kotonoha - All Original https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Makoto_Shinkai#Film Note: As it is with many of his stuff, he's the writer for all the storyboard, script, scenario, character, key character design, etc. Following the film's theatrical release usually follows manga/LN adaptations that aim to cover some dialogues and side-stories not added to the main film. However these films are not to be confused with a manga/LN adaptation. Evangelion + EoE - Original Anno Hideaki_smug_face.png here. Deltora Quest - Book http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=30866&show=9050#msg42619375 I'll add MaouYuusha as well however I'm confused if I should label that as original, 4koma or novel since there's no option of "series of posts submitted to 2ch by author Mamare Touno that eventually got compiled and led to the creation of a solid story, which was then sold to a production committee for an anime adaptation but had several (5) different manga adaptations released as well." |

http://myanimelist.net/anime/7112/Ginga_Tetsudou_no_Yoru:_Fantasy_Railroad_in_the_Stars Should the air date be June 17th, 2006? That was the first day of its showing at this planetarium http://www.planetarium.konicaminolta.jp/ It then got a broader planetarium release in 2007. It’s since then been shown in regular theaters too and finally released on DVD. Additional tidbit: the planetarium/theater showing has the film at 38 minutes. In the DVD release has it at 48 minutes. http://myanimelist.net/anime/17437/The_iDOLM@STER_Movie:_Kagayaki_no_Mukougawa_e! +synonym: The IDOLM@ASTER MOVIE - To the Other Side of the Light! That’s the fansub group Chibiki’s file for the film. http://myanimelist.net/anime/3153/Kagaku_Ninja-tai_Gatchaman_%28Movie%29 Remove Superpower to match the main anime since the characters get powers from the tech rather than having ones themselves. http://myanimelist.net/anime/3154/Kagaku_Ninja-tai_Gatchaman_%28OVA%29 Well I’ll be damned, the listed Jap title really is the title. https://web.archive.org/web/20100306181248/http://www.tatsunoko.co.jp/works/archive/ova_gatchaman.html Please change the main title to just “Gatchaman”. http://myanimelist.net/anime.php?q=Date%20A%20Live Question for this franchise. Isn’t the “A” in the main title an article so it should be a lowercase “a” instead? As the MC has to date (verb) a (article) live (noun). With the “live” being these live-grenade spirit girls. I know we override random Japanese capitalizations all the time but I didn’t know if this was a legit article or an acronym. http://myanimelist.net/anime/3299/H2O:_Footprints_in_the_Sand Can the 2 in the main and Japanese title be a subscript? As it’s the chemical formula for water and the two should be small. The Japanese wiki shows/has it written correct if you want to copy+paste. http://myanimelist.net/anime/31780/Kimi_no_Kokoro_wa_Kagayaiteru_kai +synoym: Love Live! Sunshine!! Love Live! I assume it was leeched from AniDB which lists the same wrong duration. I wanted to state my case rather than doing the blind Edit submission on the anime’s page. http://myanimelist.net/anime/8554/Hashire_Melos Duration is 00:18:28 Same issue as above. This anime was the Nissei Family Special which confirms its short timeslot http://myanimelist.net/anime/5507/Senjou_no_Valkyria:_Gallian_Chronicles http://myanimelist.net/anime/7016/Senjou_no_Valkyria:_Gallian_Chronicles_Theater Where did the “Gallian Chronicles” part of the Jap title and subsequent titles come from? The official site doesn’t list that http://www.valkyria-anime.com/ nor does the covers of the BD Box set or any DVD release. The anime is just titled “Senjou no Valkyria”. With the official English title “Valkyria Chronicles” under it. The chibi theater thing has 戦ヴァル劇場 (SenVal Gekijou) in its title so that should be added. http://myanimelist.net/anime/12581/Asa_Made_Jugyou_Chu! “Made” should be lowercase in the main title. http://myanimelist.net/anime/7867/Gon More Info: During episode 18-22, the first half of the episode contained a new story and the second half of the episode contained live-action game shows, interviews with staff, and other Gon-related stuff starring a child reporter. So these episodes are technically 15 minutes long. During episode 37-40, the first half of the episode contained a recap and the second half of the episode contained a new story. (general note, these two things do not affect the current listed duration) For both seasons in the franchise can you add “Kids” as a genre. The manga was serialized in a seinen mag and certain was darker but the anime itself is completely kiddy especially with the OP and ED sung by IRL on screen dancing children. http://myanimelist.net/anime/12341/Trip_Trek Please put back the old pic. The blonde character and fly are not in the 2003 series. From the few eps available of the 2010 series, they are not there either. Just speculation but it might be an anime-ified representation of the singer of the OST since it’s the CD’s image. http://myanimelist.net/anime/3593/Utawarerumono_OVA The OVA be in parenthesis. http://myanimelist.net/anime/6743/Utawarerumono_Picture_Drama So this title should be “Utawarerumono (OVA) Picture Drama” http://myanimelist.net/anime/24075/Persona_4_The_Golden_Animation More Info: On the BD release the 12th episode had 5 minutes more of additional footage. Delete the background info since it’s a copypasta of the synopsis. http://myanimelist.net/anime/743/Umi_ga_Kikoeru Type: Special This was a for-TV oneshot film which makes it a Special under DB guidelines. This did not air in theaters. http://myanimelist.net/anime/2617/Ghiblies These should be split as one is a Special and the other is a Movie with a 2 year air difference between the two. The film is longer than the special and the film was a double feature with Neko no Ongaeshi. http://myanimelist.net/anime/7479/Karate_Baka_Ichidai +genre: historical Events occur post-WW2 Japan and the issues US occupation causes which leads the MC to learning karate. http://myanimelist.net/anime/10887/Dame_Oyaji +synonym: No Good Daddy http://myanimelist.net/anime/8763/Hajime_Ningen_Gyatoruz +genre: Historical http://myanimelist.net/anime/6685/Mesu_Kyoushi_Injoku_no_Kyoushitsu Probably a colon is needed between Kyoushi and Injoku to match its sister relation. http://myanimelist.net/anime/24417/Maido!_Urayasu_Tekkin_Kazoku +genre: shounen http://myanimelist.net/anime/31898/Robocar_Poli Since this was a South Korean made anime, I think the “Jap title” area should be in Hangul (로보카 폴리) rather than katakana to reflect the country of origin and original airing. http://myanimelist.net/anime/20671/Shashinkan +genre: historical http://myanimelist.net/anime.php?id=8157 +synonym: Gegege no Kitarou: Yokai Express! The Phantom Train http://myanimelist.net/anime.php?id=31851 Unsure about this entry. The main animated part is the 11+ min long bit. Then credits roll. Then there are 4 “episodes” focusing on Aria, Farine, Sharu, and the expedition men respectively done in a traditional half-naked (but no nipples) still like that of common picture dramas. Even though these 4 are on the same bonus disc, their style is very different from the main feature of the disc. Should they get their own entry like Princess Lover http://myanimelist.net/anime/7468/Princess_Lover!_Picture_Drama http://myanimelist.net/anime/8231/Princess_Lover!:_Magical_Knight_Maria-chan or should the duration be bumped to 00:15:59 to account for the entire thing? http://myanimelist.net/anime/31846/Puzzle_&_Dragons The title of this should be Tenkousei https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5hEPmYWajk because that’s what is was given on the official youtube page (転校生). The CM is for Puzzle & Dragons but the thing itself is not titled that. Type should be ONA since it’s a digital release for a digital game, and Studio Colorido’s official site says it’s a web commercial. Not a regular commercial like their other works are devoid of that specific note. http://myanimelist.net/anime/31306/Irodorimidori_Episode_0:_Change_Our_Mirai! http://myanimelist.net/anime/31779/Irodorimidori https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TE5UKGOezBA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbJYQMjiYzk This literally a motion comic. The reason why Hadi Girl and Tonari no Kashiwagi-san are constantly rejected for. I can understand having http://myanimelist.net/anime/31300/Irodorimidori:_Change_Our_Mirai! the database because it’s actually animated. So based on Irodorimidori being in the DB what about this http://myanimelist.net/anime.php?q=witch+village Leknaat, this is the one I asked you about half a year ago http://imgur.com/sTT9BN6 Since you never replied I took that as a "no it's not anime". All dialogue has to be read from the speech bubbles just like motion comics, they don't even put the effort to have voice actors read it sans the mysterious narrator that speaks for a few seconds each ep. I know we came to the consensus this year that motion comics are allowed if they're the specials of a main real anime-anime http://myanimelist.net/anime/20557/11eyes_Picture_Drama but that they would be denied for new/outside anime that are only composed of that style of "animation" aka Hadi Girl and Tonari no Kashiwagi-san and that Isreal travel anime https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFT22S9euEI Witch Village Story literally has less stuff "animated" than an episode of Tonari no Kashiwagi-san. |

All other side stories and the movie are tricky to label. It's unquestionable that GuP debuted as a anime all-original story, however, all the manga and guidebooks/fanbooks/picturebooks Media Factory is publishing are creating content that eventually gets animated, such as the short OVAs and SS. Anime Tenchou - Other https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kazuhiko_Shimamoto Note: Also a tricky one. Anime Tenchou started as a character designed by Shimamoto to promote Animate stores. As it [the character] increased in popularity, all parts involved decided to expand the character to a whole set of stories. From that we got a short manga/4koma and this OVA I've added MaouYuusha as "novel". After giving it some thought, it's the best option to hint that it's a sole creation of Mamare which was then adapted into anime/manga. |

Yup. まで made is a particle so it should be lowercase like the other particles such as kara http://myanimelist.net/anime/251/Kyou_kara_Maou! and ni http://myanimelist.net/anime/1889/Higurashi_no_Naku_Koro_ni_Kai Paulo27 said: lanblade said: Why? There's hundreds of entries like this, what's different here? (It also has OVA there in the cover.)http://myanimelist.net/anime/3593/Utawarerumono_OVA The OVA be in parenthesis. http://myanimelist.net/anime/6743/Utawarerumono_Picture_Drama So this title should be “Utawarerumono (OVA) Picture Drama” The DB guidelines state that it needs to be in parenthesis. "When multiple anime entries share the same title but are of a different type, the title of the most recent entry will include the type in parentheses. When they are of the same type, the most recent entry will include the year." The main thing that caught my eye with this is Utawarerumono Picture Drama which by title alone makes it seem like it's a picture drama released for the main Utawarerumono TV anime. But it's not, only the Recaps and Specials were. Having it as Utawarerumono (OVA) Picture Drama removes all doubt. The formal title of the release is "OVA うたわれるもの" just like it is on the cover but MAL overrides that and shoves OVAs to the back in the similar manner how Gekijouban is always converted to Movie and shoved to the back for film releases. I believe this was done to keep series clustered together under the parent name so we don't have 400 billion unrelated anime that start as OVA or Gekijouban sitting all together in the alphabetical view. |

Didn't notice the fact that the Picture Dramas were missing the OVA part. But if it even has OVA in the title why the parentheses? And like I said, tons of series don't have parentheses for their OVAs even if they use the same title, OVAs that come with manga and all. Like this: http://myanimelist.net/anime.php?q=noragami I'm saying this based on the assumption that the OVAs is not a remake of the anime (which I don't think it is but I haven't watched it), if it is a remake or something then yeah, I guess parentheses should be used but outside of that I still don't understand why? I feel like I'm just missing something here because it has always been this way. |

I feel like I'm just missing something here because it has always been this way. Why on your why? The DB guidelines say so. I'm not the one that came up with the rule. I think some of the moderators have forgotten it over the years and fell into a nook of dropping it off when approving DB entries. It wasn't until this year that a "it has always been this way" groove has been officially overturned in that Recaps and OVAs are to have their official title used instead of being truncated due to other circumstances. http://imgur.com/Td9681P We're now getting anime entries will full names added to the DB after years of just having OVA slapped on there. http://myanimelist.net/anime/31551/Yurumates_3D_Plus:_Natsuyasumi_Maison_du_Wish_Report http://myanimelist.net/anime/31483/Akagami_no_Shirayuki-hime:_Nandemonai_Takaramono_Kono_Page Same with specials too http://myanimelist.net/anime/31436/Danchi_Tomoo:_Natsuyasumi_no_Shukudai_wa_Owatta_no_ka_yo_Tomoo And when new Movies and TV series have them, I don't see why OVAs shouldn't get the same treatment http://myanimelist.net/anime/32071/Gantz_%28Movie%29 http://myanimelist.net/anime/31821/Arslan_Senki__%28TV%29_2nd_Season for database consistency. It seems like the odd that only 1 Type gets different treatment for no reason. At least for franchises, it makes it easy to see the watch order without playing the chain game in the relation links like here: http://myanimelist.net/anime.php?q=Kaibutsu+Oujo&type=0&score=0&status=0&p=0&r=0&sm=0&sd=0&sy=0&em=0&ed=0&ey=0&c[]=a&c[]=b&c[]=c&c[]=f&gx=0 Delenai said: lanblade said: I think the title is a play with wordsThat's what I kept finding as well. I couldn't find anything but at least something like High School DxD BorN literally has a FAQ page on one of the official sites which says BorN doesn't mean anything and it's a style choice to have it written like that. |

I see, I just find it odd you're suggesting that now because I have basically never seen it used like that or seen anyone suggest it was used like that. That Kaibutsu Oujo OVA in your link also seems to be an alternative version to the original rather than a side-story, just like the Arslan and Gantz entries, while the Utawarerumono are just side-stories, like the Noragami entries I linked. Other cases where (OVA)/(TV) are used for remakes: http://myanimelist.net/anime.php?q=Black%E2%98%85Rock%20Shooter%20 http://myanimelist.net/anime.php?q=ushio%20to%20tora http://myanimelist.net/anime.php?q=Mushrambo%20 http://myanimelist.net/anime.php?q=Gaki%20Deka%20 http://myanimelist.net/anime.php?q=Yamada-kun%20to%207-nin%20no%20Majo%20 But indeed, it is as you say, OVAs get off a lot more lightly than other entries. Like if the Yamada-kun TV anime came first, the OVA would likely not have parentheses (assuming the ONA didn't exist, I doubt it'd get "(TV) OVA" then). But I imagine it's rare for an OVA which contains side-stories to come before the TV anime and them sharing the same title, so I have never seen what the solution for that would be (if they'd follow the guidelines (by using (TV)), or what I mentioned above as being the commonly used (and simply calling the first entry OVA). Now, this could all be one big coincidence and the Japanese titles for side-stories OVAs might all have OVA in their title as well, while remakes don't, which means the guidelines would still be followed without a problem (which means that if the TV series for Yamada-kun came first it's likely the OVA would be called Yamada-kun OVA in Japanese instead of just Yamada-kun and the guidelines would still be followed by not having the parentheses). Just like how you pointed out that lots of movies have Gekijouban in their titles and MAL turns that into Movie and pushes it to the back, I think it's a lot more common for remake movies to not have Gekijouban while side-story movies have it, which would explain why remake movies basically all have (Movie) while side-stories movies just have Movie. Just apply the same logic to the OVAs. And back to the Utawarerumono entry - I'm still a bit confused on why the Utawarerumono OVA would need the parentheses when the Japanese title is Utawarerumono OVA, wouldn't it only need it if it was just Utawarerumono? |

You bring up a lot of good points. It's a lot of wibbly wobbly MALy databasy stuff that really should get more concrete stipulations on the ifs, ands, and buts because it makes no mention of relations or side stories if it affects the presence of a parenthesis. But to answer your last paragraph. Since the uta ova is formally titled "OVA Utawarerumono" from "OVA うたわれるもの" then "Utawarerumono OVA" isn't its actual 1-on-1 romanized title. Also, MAL lists "うたわれるもの" as its only title. Perhaps a legacy of an unwritten rule that if it had an OVA in its original title, then it is not included in the Japanese title because it was useless back in the day. If "OVA" are cut off from the original Jap title then its like it never had one in the first place, so it follows the DB guidelines of being granted an OVA to its main title and that OVA is given parenthesis because its Jap title with the formal cut-off is now identically titled to an earlier anime. There are also modified titles like this http://myanimelist.net/anime/9618/Asobi_ni_Iku_yo!:_Asobi_ni_Oide whose formal Japanese title is あそびにいくヨ!OVAすぺしゃる『おーぶいえーであそびにきました!!』 written on the cover of the DVD itself: http://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B0049SOGHW but the Jap title used on MAL is a truncated version. And this http://myanimelist.net/anime/30988/Futsuu_no_Joshikousei_ga_[Locodol]_Yatte_Mita.:_Christmas_Special where the OVA part is a part of the official title but it's been removed form the romanized title. Or this http://myanimelist.net/anime/9047/Toaru_Kagaku_no_Railgun:_Misaka-san_wa_Ima_Chuumoku_no_Mato_Desukara where the original title was just "OVA: Toaru Kagaku no Railgun" or even "Toaru Kagaku no Railgun" if you only look at the kagi http://www.project-railgun.net/1/contents/hp0013/index01160000.html but MAL made its own large title using the episode's title rather than the title from the official site. Again wibbly wobbly MALy databasy stuff, would be nice to have clearer cut guidelines so we don't have the blind leading the blind like with the naming of Recaps stuff earlier. |
