I began in February and now I have only seven more to read to complete the challenge. The thing is, during these three months, I managed to complete just one anime film and two, maybe three medium-length games. If I were to spend more time on things unrelated to the chalenge, the number of finished titles would have been much smaller. Either way, good luck on your journey! |

Hey, does anyone have a rec for 1. a manga about non romantic relationships 2. a manga focusing on kids (i know it says with children in it, but it feels cheap to have anything less than a child protag) 3. a manga about food I've taken this challenge as kind of a way to read some longer manga, so I'm open to longer suggestions, and would prefer to get some though I'd prefer if they were finished publishing (if they aren't finished publishing you can still chuck them in for when I'm done the challenge though). |

YKK is a 14 volume long slice of life manga. The art is impeccable and it's heart-warming and even quite intriguing. I'd recommend it to anyone. Yotsuba&! isn't done publishing but I'd still highly recommend it. |

I am not signed to the challenge, but I visit this thread for recommendations a lot, and I've noticed that some people were looking for a manga that is based on a work of another medium. I'd highly recommend Tsumi to Batsu - A Falsified Romance, based on "Crime and Punishment" by Dostoyevsky. It's good but not too well-known. Just, you know, maybe it'll help someone with this tricky entry. |

So yes , I think you can , it's definitly not a problem . So I have a question. I'm currently reading Higurashi Tsumihoroboshi Hen, and after that I'll read the only one left for me - Matsuribayashi Hen. Can I add both of them in my list for different challenges or should I treat them as a one series? On the other hand if you prefer to consider them as a block , it means you'll have to read the all serie of different manga to add it ^^ . It's not a problem too . After all , the rules of the challenge are made to make the experience the best possible , it's flexible for case like this , nothing is set in stone and can be changed case by case if there is good argument (I'm sure tsuyokunaru would agree) . |

Thanks Dullboy for helping out! I was a little away due to work and school stuff, but I'm less busy now. I'll keep better track of things. I've been a little bad at keeping up with my own challenge. I'm thinking about those : "Kamisama no Iutoori" , "Saikyou Densetsu Kurosawa" and "Dragon Head" I enjoyed Sumire it was a really fun manga. But I think it would be better if it was a little shorter, it was a bit repetitive at times and some characters where slightly annoying. The ending was nice ;~; Kamisama no Iutoori is probably the best "survival" manga/anime I can across. Usualy this type of manga is bad with characters since they all end up dying quickly, but I think this manga does a pretty good job despite all that. It also has a more elaborate story than other manga of this type and the art was pretty good. Overall it was a really fun read and I'm looking forward to reading the sequal. Kurosawa is touching and inspiaring. The main character is a socally awkward 44 year old construction worker who tries his hardest to get by. It does a good job at portraining kurosawa's despair, lonlines and all his failures. It's like a coming of age story for adults and those are quite rare. The art is very unique but it compliments the story well. Dragon Head - well I didn't really like dragon head all that much. The beginning was good, but later on it just keeps draging on and at the end it doesn't even get a proper conclusion and there are a ton of unanswerd questions left. But the bigest problem I had with it where the characters, they where bland, shallow and boring. Pretty much everyone other than the main characters is crazy and they often act illogically. I'm looking at reviews of people saying how realistic it is and I don't get it, I got the completely opposite opinion. Anyway I wouldn't really recommend it, but a lot of people seem to like it so idk.. I think that Historie, Annarasumanara and Ore to Akuma no Blues where the best ones I read for the challenge. Historie is very historically accurate with a lot of attention to details so if you like historical manga I'd definitely recommend it, but it seems to have very slow releases so that sucks. Annarasumanara is a beautiful coming of age story. Great characters, beautiful art.. I didn't read a lot of manhwa so this was very refreshing read. I think you would like it. EDIT: or maybe you wouldn't.. I see that you read another manhwa from the same artist (My Heart Is Beating), they are probably similar, although Annarasumanara seems to be better received. I need to read some Taiyou Matsumoto's manga. Which manga stand out from the ones you read for the challenge? |

wow thanks a lot MatijaxD , I didn't intended to make you write that much , I hope it wasn't a bother , I don't know how much time it took you to write . MatijaxD said: I think the same .I enjoyed Sumire it was a really fun manga. But I think it would be better if it was a little shorter, it was a bit repetitive at times and some characters where slightly annoying. The ending was nice ;~; what you said is really helpfull , I think I'll read the first two , it does look good and it would fit for me (especially Kurosawa) . On the other hand I was planning to read Dragon head but now I think I wont ^^ . I trust what you say about this , and characters like that are a huge turn off for me , so it's a no (maybe I'll still check out of curiosity , but it's definitly not a priority now) About Annarasumanara , well the thing is I tried it for the challenge in fact (up to chapter 8 , if I recall)...but I didn't liked it and stopped . I think I'm going to look like a sad person and very harsh (but don't think too much about it) , but I felt like it was demagogic , that it tried to "please the reader" . And that's something I really can't deal with and make me feel annoyed and a little angry . It's the same feeling I have while reading "Koe no katashi" (and I know a lot of people like it a lot , gonna make enemy ^^) or "Onani master Kurosawa" (but less , I still like that one) . Maybe I'm the one at fault , or it's my personality but it really is a "no" for me . MatijaxD said: As a matter of fact , I just happened to read the first volume of "Sunny" today , and it was great . I consider Taiyou Matsumoto to be "the master of the melancolic feel" , and this manga is typicall him in every way , but it had a brightness , a sort of warm feeling that didn't showed that much in his other work . I heavily recommend it .I need to read some Taiyou Matsumoto's manga MatijaxD said: For me it's definitly "Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou", "Gunslinger Girl" and "Homonculus" (but I really liked "Sakamichi no Apollon" too) .Which manga stand out from the ones you read for the challenge? - Yokohama is the most relaxing and calm manga on this planete earth, but it never felt boring . It was like settle down a little , and watching what's around , all the sensation , feeling and thoughts . - Gunslinger Girl was a big surprise , and if it wasn't for the fact that the last volumes were bellow , I would have considered giving it a 9 . It's hard to explain it , but it's also a very unique manga by the fact that it took place in Italia and there is zero japanese character or reference (as far as I recall) . It have some really interesting thoughts about what is a relationship between two people . Who is the master or the slave/servant ? what define them ? Can feelings and affection that were manipulated to exist turn "real" ? How to know ? What is the difference between a terrorist that work for a cause and a governement agency that kill ? Who is "good" or "bad " ? And so on... - I already talked about Homunculus in the thread not so long ago , but just so you know , I readed the 15 volumes in one day , so , I think I might have liked it at least a little ^^ |
