Really enjoyed the feel of this episode and through the visuals and sound of this one. Starts off more on the happy side with us learning more about how Toka is and just wow she is totally different from when she is in battle. Also loved how they showed the two different sides for comparison between the strengths of both of them going into this episode. The black and white look with different colors to express emotions were really well done with the music also complemented the overall atmosphere of the episode. Really excited to see the next episode with the fight between Ikki and Toka and how is Ikki going to get through this.

Here is my full review on the episode:

And finally the deep drama begins in the anime, Ikki begins to suffer on account of his poor attitude and feeling liability to others, I felt the episode a bit rushed, especially on the issues that led Ikki to be detained and the interrogations

Just another episode, but I expect a great end to this adaptation, and also a great fight, I am already looking forward to the final episode ..

Ikki's dad is a ass**e, worst father 2015 award goes to...
But he will win, i know this, he was always a strong guy.
I simply can't believe how bad is his dad, for the first time his son is succeeding in something, but he still want to ruin his life...damn
For a moment i thought that Stella would cut her hair xD
This episode was very "dark style"...kinda sad to see Ikki being treated that way.
Toka(?), will let him win(not fighting seriously), i think that...because when she will see him that way she will understand what they did to him :/

I get that they are trying to expand on the whole Ikki vs father going on, but ffs make it logical.
HOW THE HELL do they have the power to incarcerate a pupil because of a freaking hearing?! And wht the hell does there need to be a hearing for a fucking KISS?!
WTAF
This entire episode made zero sense to me... Not to mention the start that honestly felt like filler as all it did is give Ikki more insight on Todo's power which he ALREADY KNEW as he says so himself...

Shit episode with forced drama 1/5...
Talk about a let down...

'Insert thank you gif'

Yup, the episode as a whole felt sooooo forced

To be honest, had the episode stuck with the default style, the second half would've looked really boring. Maybe the shift was overdone a bit, but it was better than no shift, at all.

He is socialist. All that he do is to maintain public order. What Ikki do is akin to opening path for himself whereas for his father it is making social unrest and can disturb public order by mean of mimicking him. People will start to deviate from the path that have been laid for them since birth.

How did it come out of nowhere? Rakudai has been using stylized art for a large chunk of scenes in the show, including the OP. They just haven't done like half an episode with it yet. Certainly wasn't out of "nowhere" though.

I understand that's how the story goes Neo. But it's contradictory, the two volumes that were adapted before made us think, the family hates him because his lack of magic power.
But if it was useless as his father said this episode, why not treat him normally instead of treating him like a failure. I'm sure he could contribute one way or the other for their family if he lacks talent to fight.

To all who love this, it's quite alright. Don't feel bad, you're not being judge. There are elements that I can see making you interested but omg just for me, no just no.

This is becoming less and less interesting, honestly. I get that it's pretty much the highlight of this show, but it's focusing way too much on Ikki and Stella's elementary school relationship. Now in tandem with them barely doing anything normal couples do without stuttering and blushing, it seems some grown-ups are intervening to play the bad guys (it really feels that way). After reading some comments here I guess it makes sense they overreact so much, and yet it doesn't at the same time - a war because of a kiss? Imprisonment of a minor for an indefinite period of time? That's hard to swallow no matter the explanation.

Oh, well.

Interesting episode.

Looks like trash dad is trying to compete with Noragami trash dad.

Idk who's idea it was to make 2/3 of the episode fucking black and white/dirty film grain/noir styling...but it was fucking stupid. Was it supposed to set the mood or provide some sort of emotional impact? Because it didn't. Even the scenes with color kept the film grain for literally no reason. What a shitty stylistic choice.

I hate to say it, but IMO this was the worst ep of the series so far - by a huge margin. I kept getting the feeling, excepting the pointless filler at the beginning, that this was one where source material supplementation would benefit the viewer immensely. I was really hoping they'd do something more creative with his father's character because right now I'm not following any of the logic. Ikki gets taken in for questioning on specious charges (which incidentally should redound to Kurogane disgrace), then allowed a hearing (lol why?? If they weild that much power), then forced to fight in closed door selection matches (why?), then rebuked by his father for being mediocre...for you know....owning everyone's ass so far both internally and publically. If Ikki was such a reputational threat why didn't the family yakuza just whack him a long time ago lol? And would someone please stick a fork in Mr. Fat Ass.

Maybe someone can explain what they were aiming for in this ep...

I rather enjoyed the visuals though and musically it was a bit of a step up.

how can you rate this bunch of crap 5/5?

This episode was trash, they shouldve had the dad show up to the school try to directly destabilize Ikki's place there, with Stella and rig fights against him. This crap seemed like it belonged in some kinda Orwellian style setting with the mc a part of a big org. only to be found colaborating or or sniffing too far. They should've done the above, let Ikki's father's hate be the result of his mother's affair, adoption or previous marrige...anything but that trash. Horrible duxking buildup awkward a shit drama. Hair mail was just fucking wierd, she could've easily given one of her ties or something. That's just looks fucking psycho. He was away for like 4 days when she did that? Niggas acting like he was in for like 15 years or some shit. Only part of that ep I don't regret was the imoutou pimp slap.

It's more so the plot/setting which has been used like a crackwhore. It does a good job being intriguing with the battles and animation but overall this 'template' cant do much to keep it in memory.

No the people above are right this was a stupid episode the reason for him being imprisoned was nonsense and forced. He was taken into a hearing, imprisoned while being worn down mentally for what 19 days for kissing a princess? wtf is this if that is the punishment for kissing no wonder Japan has a shrinking population -.-

So apparently there are no laws and he can just be privately arrested and questioned for over 2 weeks while being mentally worn down, that is torture simple as that. It was a stupid over dramatic episode that was triggered by something far too small if they were going to do this they could of pulled something better. All the stuff with his dad was just ruined by the sheer stupidity of this episode. Also don't give me this crap about how having a relationship with the princess could cause a war royalty have relationships and relations with people and no freaking wars pop out at this day and age all it makes is good tabloid news.

The grain they shoved over most of this episode was also ugly and a terrible choice.
Signed.

Great episode, the stage is set for a great last battle. Aiming for a second season, I guess?
I didn't mind the pacing, it started slow and picked up as the episode went along, which is fine and works well for hyping up the last episode. Overall, I enjoyed it.

As for the villain, we don't actually know his motivations yet. And yes, dating the princess of a foreign country without approval of anyone else (and before marriage) can be seen as unchivalrous, and can bring the knight system into disrepute. It made sense to me. As a knight in training, he comes under these rules.

However, I'm not clear on what the director did to help Ikki in court. What the hell happened there?

This is basically everything I expected from this show since the beginning.
I noticed before how the opening is awesome, but literally had nothing to do with the show and made it look like it had a lot more action than it actually does. So far, I've been disappointed with Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry but this one episode is everything the series should've been. The animation style was freaking amazing, really different.
Now all we have to do is wait. xD

A lot of people are saying the drama is forced, but I think it's because they somewhat downplayed the talks about Ikki's past in the first few episodes, and perhaps the drama up until this point(especially the swordeater fight). Some parts definitely could've done better.

You have not been alive in 1997? Nor watched any tv about Britain then?

When it comes to royalty and hierarchy, thats very much a real thing. And often than not it turns into crime conspiracy bullshit real fast.

The fact that Ikki's father continuously tries to get him killed and/or disgraced also fuels that.

It was pretty clear from the start that this episode would be VERY controversial. The story is piling a lot of drama and ugliness on Ikki, and this pretty much forces different kinds of reactions.

Those who know the LN source have it easiest: They tend to empathize with Ikki to begin with, and they know the background information WHY the Kuroganes are acting like buttwipes - this aspect was thinned out by the anime due to available time. Still, it was done in a pretty convincing way, by the accounts of the vast majority.

Those who don't empathize with Ikki to begin with are unsurprisingly those who bash this episode. Duh. The criticism that it felt "forced" is kinda hilarious, though. OF COURSE it was forced. This is no natural development, this is one side trying to throw everything including the kitchen sink at a person to destroy him. Simple as that. And I know already that you'll really hate the ending, so what are you still doing here?

For me personally: I remember that reading through this end arc felt very unpleasant - I tend to prefer the lighter aspects of the show. But a great literature critic once said "a good book is a book that doesn't bore me". And I sure as hell was not and am not bored here.

It's kind of funny to see how alot of people are raging on ikki's dad in this episode yet didn't say anything about mister swordeater not getting any kind of repercussion for his "he is a cool guy" actions.

Lets be honest here why does this suddenly bother some people so much? I mean it's not like calvary tried to aim for something literary special with it's bland shounen like setting and it's bland shounen like logic. What did you expect?

This episode literally explained it?

Dad's a conservative. Ikki's strength breaks the system and tradition that the system is based upon. IF Ikki succeeds, others at lower hierarchy would get ideas to try too, which does not sit well with the dad.

No matter how much Ikki would prove himself, that would make his dad hate him even more.

The Award for worst Father of all time goes to..ring ring..Ikki's father in all his glory...that piece of shit is not worth it. Ikki do it for the sake of your own potential not for him..he is worthless scumbag who deserves nothing.... You are probably more of a worthy knights than anybody else...the very fact u can do so much with such a limit of your ability against these folks already proved your worth more than anything else.

The Hierarchy system has and will always be flawed...it might provide structure and stability but it limits the potential advancements and improvement than can happen..

A person worth is his potential not on his status.... human evolution has expanded greatly due to how much the hierarchy system has dropped within nations these last 150 years... you have to give chance to see what a person is capable of and than make a judgement of his worth and not based on pre determined status quo.

So i guess out of the six..Ikki..Alice and Stella will be in the seven star battle. to bad it will end just before it starts...i really hope this sells well enough to get another season or at the very least be popular enough to release in the west later...this has been probably the best series within the Battle Academy Genre in years...and that is saying a lot considering how much those have overpopulated the LN and anime market.

P.s does anybody know how the pre order are as of now? i hope they are good enough...2k should be the minimum for securing it ....above 5k can guarantee it

i don't mind where they took the story even if it's a bit cliche. it's not like they pulled this plot out of thin air - it's building on all of the themes from the beginning of the show.

but with only 12 episodes, it defnitely feels rushed and i can't say i cared much for this episode. nothing that happened felt earned. the last one was so much better.

It is not Socialism, rather it is Elitism. Guy believes that only those that have talent can grow, and those that are mediocre should be destined to have mediocre results. Ikki is setting an "example" of a mediocre guy that is growing stronger, which this guy disapproves since in his view, it will cause other weaklings to become motivated to change, which he believes will destroy the pre-established order that only elites gotta top, and the rest gotta resign themselves to being at the low tier for the rest of their lives.

It is arrogance at its purest, with a level of cruelty to match.

P.s does anybody know how the pre order are as of now? i hope they are good enough...2k should be the minimum for securing it ....above 5k can guarantee it
What can you ask an arrogant piece of shit that was born on a cradle of gold and is the head of the group? He just wants to protect his own interests. Hell considering how disgusted Shizuku was at humanity at first, she may very well have turned worse than the father were not for Ikki.

And yes the title of worse father goes to him. Gendo Ikari got dethroned by lightspeed years of difference.
