mine is clannad and at the time i dont think i had a MAL account and pretty much started my journey on watching tons of anime i had just finished FMA and i was on youtube and i somehow got to a video called "violent anime girls(funny)" so i watched that and saw at the time a boy holding a pig then getting kicked into mid air (by now i knew that was sunohara getting raped by kyou.) and it made my day and searched for it everywhere on google just typing boy holding pig and getting kicked by girl and clannad had came up in a forum about an episode mentioning the samething, so i just started watching it from ep 1 the end... "season 2 was about to be realeased by the time i finished.."

so how did u discover yours? recent? old? youtube? XD ftw.
you dont have to read my story i think it drags :L

I went to ANN and checked the top anime list. Then I read some descriptions and picked what sounded interesting to me. And that concludes the fascinating story of how I watched Mushishi.

1 - I went on animeseason and saw AnoHana on the front page.
2 - I then went on MAL and added it to my list.
3 - After all that I went on YouTube and searched up a trailer/preview.

Watched it, and was amazed.

Friends were telling me about this gruesome anime and I wondered what it was. People were telling me to try the first 4 episodes and if I did not like it to drop it. These people did not watch the anime themselves yet except for the first 4 episodes. They all didn't seems to want to go past that at the moment. So I gave it a try and keep going past 4 because I loved it so much. This anime was Higurashi. =D

For Higurashi, I found it while searching for "creepy animes". Madoka Magica, I was looking for something great with Mahou Shoujos in it. Steins;Gate and Maria Holic where recommended by friends, and Ghost Hunt I found out while reading a thread around here somewhere about creepy and scary animes, and I found out a lot of people said Ghost Hunt was like that. Couldn't help but go straight to watch it.

While trying to get back into anime after an extremely long hiatus, I stumbled upon the glorious and wonderful show known as Panty & Stocking w/ Garterbelt. I loved absolutely everything about it, from the crude humour, sex jokes to absolutely EVERYTHING. I was like damn, what awesome studio animated this crazy fun show to watch? Gainax. It was then I read that Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann was a really good show from them so I went and checked it out not expecting much.. and was I amazed.

It is like the epitome of every boys dreams moulded into a 27 episode animation of manliness and over the top action.

A friend of mine told me to watch Code Geass (out of the blue and it really surprised me since I didn't know he liked anime).
I wasn't really that much into anime at that time, but I was rewatching old animes that aired on TV a while ago that I really liked, so I watched it and then become amazed (practically spent 24 hours glued to the screen) and it was what really got me into anime.

I was left alone with a friend's laptop and was told that I could watch some anime if I wanted. I started watching FMP Fumoffu and really enjoyed it. I found out later that it was the second season. Then I went and watched the first season (and third) and fell in love!

Was googling for something or the other and ended up at a MAL review. The review impressed me so I took time to poke around the site. Was looking at the top rated list and noticed Legend of the Galactic Heroes. Looked interesting so I read a couple reviews and went looking for a source for the show.

Well I don't think I have a single favorite, but I have quite a few that I consider my favorites.

Naruto, the original series. That was one of the best anime I've seen. People call it mainstream, but it's popular for a reason. It had awesome characters and the story is second to none, not to mention it always delivered. I saw it through Cartoon Network. Naruto really influenced my to get into anime more.

Sora no Otoshimono, can't live without this one. I got a recommendation from a person on a forum. I've still yet to properly thank the person for showing me.

FLCL. I watched an episode or 2 on Adult Swim, so I decided to buy the DVD's. I can't go a month without watching an episode from it.

Durarara!! I also saw this on Adult Swim. I really love this series. A true masterpiece.

Baka and Test. Believe it or not, I saw a banner for it on MAL. So I decided to give it a try. And now it's one of my favorite anime of all time. Thanks MAL!

Gits and Gundam seed were on my tv when i was 10.
Honestly at that age i barely understood whats going on but i watched it because i had this huge crush on Motoko.

I saw a picture of Misato and thought she was pretty cute so i watched evangelion on youtube at around 12,i also got really lost halfway through to what was going on so i skipped to all the scene with Misato in it.

Also note i rewatched this series later on,when i was a lot older.
I wouldnt it add to my list if i didnt. :P

Madoka was a recent thing,i dunno the concept of a magical girl show gone depressing sad dark was always interesting to me.It was a good show overall though.

I played the VN of Sister Princess, then a year later my cousin hooked me up with the LN of it which I loved, then I watched the anime raw online in 01' and I loved the series just as much, I own the DVD, both PS1 games, and a bit of merchandise related to the series including almost all of the official artbooks. I have the LN of Repure as well but I only bought it a month ago and finished it last week, I'm glad I got it because it's way better than the anime which was slightly below average.

Sailor Moon I seen during the 90's, however by the time it aired on Toonami I was nearly done with the series and finished it while most viewers were on the first season. Before anyone says do I or have I lived in Japan, the answer is no I seen this through bootleg VHS and is the only anime I've ever seen through these means.

Well my "favorite" anime is a tie between Toradora and Code Geass...

For Code Geass, I simply googled "an anime similar to Death Note" and yahoo answers found this gem for me.

As for Toradora, I was on AnimeUltima and on the little chatango thing, I asked for some recommendations. Some genius recommended Toradora and it was the best thing evar. I wish I knew who the fellow was so I could thank him. Changed how I viewed other animes drastically.

I discovered my anime back in 6th grade when it was 2006. Eureka Seven!
I was passing by Fry's Electronics and I noticed and interesting DVD cover which happened to catch my eyes attention. I decide to grab it. I looks around for more but wasn't able to find any other of the disk so I left it. I later went home and bought the complete box online. From then on after watching the beautiful anime, it became my favorite.

I found Higurashi from a video that said "Top Traumatic Expierences of Anime (2/2)" or something.

I had a dream about Clannad before even watching it, and proceeded to watch the entire series in one day the day after my dream. I'm watching Clannad: AS on DVD right now and my tear are blurring up my keyboard. This is the ending of Yukine's arc.

Shakugan no Shana, well I started on season three because of an AMV I found of it.

Bakemonogatari from rec.
