Not a surprise loved the episode and find quite shocking that some posts talk about ppl dropping this series just because Daikichi bought Rin's mother an ice cream...i mean COME ON...

Looks like this anime is making the world more green xD.
That's good because last time I saw *looks at time* it was about 1 hours that the fucking smog was disgusting to watch. In thee end kids like Rin have disease and die from pollution.

So this anime does a great thing not only to show parenthood but also to show how it can contribute towards the environment.

I think that was a very interesting and lovely tradition and I if the time comes I will also like to plant a tree for my sons.
And if you look at it it's a very good way to help the environment...how many persons are born in the whole world in just one day? imagine all the trees that would be growing! well taking into consideration that most will actually do it but we live in a not so conscient world so...its a shame and mostly wouldn't happen D:

Oh that was wonderful. I watched all the eps this weekend, and wow, my heart.

I really like the tree idea, I've seen it in a few anime, I wish my parents had've done that. Future plans! :P

Man, all the posts about bad things happening and time skips and spoilers is a bit worrying. Hopefully this series stays lovely and warm and n'aaaw, at least for this season.

Depending on what tree it is, it may be possible to have its fun by climbing it.

IMO the best fun will always be to build a tree-house on your birth tree if its strong enough to hold it.

Lovely episode. Daikichi's boxer was... Colorful.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought Kouki-chan was a brat.

Planting a tree when your born is an interesting thing to do. I think I might do that in the future if I have a kid.

I used to have a tree too and it grew really big but now it's been cut down.

Joining in the tree planting. Which fruit trees are good for zone 5A? Hmm.
Ask a garden expert. I highly suggest to go at least to 2 stores and compare opinions.

Daikichi's family just chose the trees from tradition and available kinds around their area.

The tree planting was nice, living in the urban jungle makes me want to move to the countryside and get my own big backyard. The drops in same river analogy and the accompanying imagery of their family walking in preceding generations made me melancholic for a bit.

I really like the chemistry between Kouki and Daikichi, its kind of like a father and son

Foreshadowing maybe?

That would be nice!

And like others have said I liked the idea of planting a tree to commemorate the birth of a child. :) So that they can grow alongside it. I have heard of it before - at least, in English class in high school, when analyzing a poem about a sequoia tree.

Hope the whistle thing doesn't become crucial later on. I would hate for what Daikichi said to become true, and for Kouki to be like 'the boy who called wolf' (i.e. no one comes when he whistles for help, because the numerous times he did it before there was nothing wrong...).

If there's one thing that always fascinated me about the Japanese culture is how they can treasure every moment of their lives, no matter how insignificant it may seem to western culture. And the actions they do to symbolize and give meaning to such moments are simply wonderful.

And this episode was that, showing that Asian culture and that symbolism in an amazingly well-done episode, once again.

And I agree with everyone else about Kouki. I guess he even unconsciously acknowledges Daikichi as a father-figure.

It's so nice she has a tree too :) Grandpa was such an awesome guy.
A lot of references between her and Grandpa this episode :D

I wish I had a tree :(, I am totally gonna take that idea if I have children!

Kouki, Rin, and Daikichi are so funny together! I feel like Rin has brought a lot of fun into Daikichi's life. He was so lifeless in the first episode.. :)

Woohooo Grandpa! I know you didn't have Rin with Masako. You're too nice for that :D

This whole time I felt like Kouki's mom and Daikichi that would get together, not the kids. They seem more like siblings... Especially since Daikichi acts a bit flustered around her, which I think is cute.

This episode was a little slow, but I get the feeling that constant interaction with the mom is going to lead to problems later.

A contribution in regards to Loquat seeds. It does not take like 10 years and the following says "Small, white, fragrant flowers are borne in fall/early winter in panicles at the ends of the branches, giving way to one- to two-inch oval yellowish clustering fruit in the summer (March through June). " So it takes at most 1 year.

I got the information in wiki:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loquat
and in another place for the duration quoted here:
http://daviswiki.org/Loquat_Trees
well hope it gets some interested. The fruit looks not bad. The seed looks like a tool to bully in school. Seed shooters?

Actually, it takes six years for it to produce fruit for the first time when planted from a seed, so she won't be able to eat them till she's almost in high school.

I must be dumb, I never though of planting a tree for a child birth, it's a pretty good idea! I would have loved to have my tree... :(

The photo at the beginning was really cute. It's an important step, to go to school. Rin is adorable, as always.

Soichi seemed like such a good guy. Her mother still uninterrested as before...

someone needs to slap kouki silly. he's such a little pest, omg. anyway, that tree concept is actually pretty cool. i kinda wish i had something like that when i was younger. but putting all that aside, i still can't really imagine an 80 year old man getting it in with a teen who doesn't even look in her twenties yet. Judging from the perception they're giving him in this anime, he wouldn't seem like the type to do that kind of crap.
Since i still have it copied (from another discussion), i might as well paste it because it seems pretty relevant to my current thought process.
