| Judging from the beginning, it looks like Ryo's some kind of fallen angel. It certainly explains why the white-haired weirdo would just wave around machine guns at people and attend drug-addled orgies to stab people with bottles. Hell, the guy turned his best friend into the most powerful devil in the world for no firm reason in particular. They really didn't hold back with the sex, drugs, and violence here but I guess that's what modern society turned out to be in its seedy parts. It'll take a bit more watching until I get used to this compared to Yuasa's other works but it's by no means bad~ |

| Damm, that was LIT!! No regrets I didnt know much before watching, the beginning of the episode set some interesting plot, was already interested with that, but that later sequence is a masterpiece of art, animation and execution. THIS SHIT IS SWEET! Lets hope the rest of the episodes manage to keep it up. |

| Ok, what is the show actually trying to do here? Being serious? Being funny? I'm usually not on the side of badmouthing well rated shows, at all, but this pilot episode has only bad things going for it. - An introduction scene with a boy trying to kill a cat with a cutter+ "You're crying, too" , edge confirmed. - A really unorthodox art style and the animation is...mixed. - Sudden freestyle rap, if that was supposed to be funny, then kudos, I feel ashamed now. Go and watch the Zombieland Saga rap. - Machine gun shots and a almost apathetic reaction of everyone involved. - Sudden killing of innocent people to awake...something. - And the last thing, if those gory scenes of the monsters killing humans should make you feel something, then it's probably not the urge to laugh out loud more than once. (At least I hope so) Because most of these were just downright ridiculous to look at. - Despite the verly last moment where the main char turned into a devil being somewhat cool, I just couldn't care anymore, sorry. Regardless I will watch it through the end, as it is only 10 episodes long. Plus you should give every crap anime the chance to redeem itself, especially after just one episode. As of now, this is 3/10 material. But seriously, the appraisal in here is just beyond me, considering all those points. |
| Okay I've got to say that this is the ugliest and the most fucked up anime I've ever seen, I just hope that the story gets better in later episodes. Seriously the artstyle look like something a 12 year old would draw, maybe even worse. |

This drug party moment when the violence and dancing occurs reminds me of the what the fuckery in Superjail! an adult swim show :-/ |

| Rewatching Devilman Crybaby at night, and my god what a first episode. The first half of the episode was alright, just a basic setup really with not much going on but once the anime got to the underground nightclub, the direction, music, animation were all fucking mindblowing in that sequence of insanity and built such a trippy atmosphere as a whole, especially when Devilman was born at that party from Akira and just seeing those girls turn to monsters and the way that was animated was awesome. The way the party integrated and exaggerated the underground, dark nature of parties like that with all the sex, drugs and violence all in one concentrated area was so well done. Yuasa went a more exaggerated Kemonozume mode with the show's presentation and it worked out for the better here in my opinion, especially for this episode. Helps that the music composition by Kensuke Ushio was fucking fantastic too for this show. Devilman Crybaby has one of I'd say my top 20 anime soundtracks so it felt great hearing it again, and the way it was utilized in this episode was splendid too. Overall, man I loved this episode. It's really controversial and it's the kind of episode that people would either love for its vision and insanity, or hate for its stupidity on the surface and obnoxiousness, but I'm on the former side here. Such a fun, creatively inspired and fucked up episode with some absolute bangers playing in the background for a lot of the scenes. |
| I went into this blind, didn't expect the over the top sex, nudity and gore scene. The art style is unique and the characters are interesting. Ryo is little over the top, forcing the demons to come is savage and brutal. So, how does a demon pick a host? The blond chick who transformed, how did it trigger? She was laughing like a maniac, then she turned into a monster. Does the demon pick hosts, people who lack humanity? |

| First half of the episode was rushed. I have a lot of questions - How did Ryo find Akira? Why Akira is in highschool when Ryo is a researcher even though they seem to be nearly the same age? How did Ryo guess that the devil won't successfully take over Akira? Were both of those guys on the phone speaking with Miki? Why no one seemed to be shocked when Ryo pulled a gun and fired at the rappers? The answers might be revealed eventually. For now I find it unnecessarily convoluted. |

| Yuasa's pacing doesn't seem to fit here and only makes it less serious than it already is. Gore is overused to the point of cringe, that pushover turning evil twist didn't look really effective here at all. Ryou needs a psychiatrist, boy is a sociopath to extreme and evil. |

| Also Ryou's instant introduction as evil weirdo is a questionable move, even though he just doesn't seem to have enough depth to show himself more. Still seems like a disappointing result for Yuasa, maybe even worse than Mind Game. |

| Devilman Crybaby - when you combine Go Nagai's gore and eroticism with Masaaki Yuasa/Science Saru's trippiness. Lmao the rap scene. Akira is a man who cries for others, but would he cry form himself? So the researcher trying to turn himself into a devil man (a human gets possessed but then maintains control of their devil powers). The accents surprisingly fit since Ryo is Japanese and the researcher is Russian. We need more multilingual anime when they are not set in Japan. Oh yeah, I noticed the steering wheel on Ryo's car was on the wrong side despite this being set in Japan, which means he imported it from the U.S., where he got his license. The Black Sabbath party in this adaptation is definitely more psychadelic dance music than the OVA's version which has heavy metal music. I remember the girl with the hair bow and scene of Akira's head landing in a girl's chest. Ryo knows sex and drugs aren't enough to get possessed by devils, devils want blood. Well, the party-goers technically got what they wanted . |

| Like with the other Go Nagai features, we're off to a slow start. For the first 10 minutes, I thought I was watching the wrong show. But, once we got to the party it started picking up. Not a big fan of the art style, but I figure it will grow on me. I prefered the soundtracks of Devil Lady and Maou Dante to this one, but we'll see if they don't grow on me too. Here's to hoping that it picks up the pace. |
