That was a little bit disturbing. lol. Kind of like Max Fleischer's early work.. :/ Almost would put it in the horror category.

I thought it was cute! Cool song.

The characters actually looked and moved like 2D shadow puppets, down to the hands having a hanging-from-strings look

It was nice. The music was catchy though it was hard to understand the lyrics at times. The story was very simple though.

I think it's because they might have been paper cut outs.

"Steamboat Willie" was only a year earlier than this, and Uncle Walt had been making money from live action/animated blend films, and poor old Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, for four years at that point. Considering that Ōfuji Noburō looks like he was flying solo when he made this, it's not too shabby at all. And the whole anime-hakase thing doesn't hurt either.

It's not only a cute record talkie anime by Noburo Ofuji that synchronizes to a fun song sung by Hideko Hirai, but also the very first anime to every be made with prerecorded sound in mind (made in 1929, but only started being publicly distributed for sale in 1931).
