Uzumaki

In the town of Kurouzu-cho, Kirie Goshima lives a fairly normal life with her family. As she walks to the train station one day to meet her boyfriend, Shuuichi Saito, she sees his father staring at a snail shell in an alley. Thinking nothing of it, she mentions the incident to Shuuichi, who says that his father has been acting weird lately. Shuuichi reveals his rising desire to leave the town with Kirie, saying that the town is infected with spirals.

But his father's obsession with the shape soon proves deadly, beginning a chain of horrific and unexplainable events that causes the residents of Kurouzu-cho to spiral into madness.

I've seen the low score and the negative reviews of some people before I started watching saying it's not very good, but I wanted to see for myself if that's truly the case.

I think the black and white art style is really helping set the mood. At first it was difficult to get used to, but later on, it became natural.

The story at first seems like an anthology, but it's actually connected. It's not something amazing, but I kind of liked it regardless.

Something that I did not enjoy was how complacent characters were with the bizarre things that were happening and how easily they accepted ... them or got used to them. Maybe this builds upon the fact that they are all residents of this place, but at first struck me as some type of mass mild insanity that everyone has for some reason.

What I didn't really like was the last episode and how it changed things and the whole perspective. It became, should I say, too epic for my taste. I prefer when things are more simple and extraordinary events stand out more because of it and when the characters react more realistically to them.

Overall, the anime was good, much better than what most people with negative reviews are complaining about. My only big complaint is that it didn't have more episodes, for example, at least 12. It would have been much better if it did.

I think it's worth watching and not as bad as people say, where the major complaint is "it isn't as good as the previous Ito Junji" anime, which I don't think is true, they are both equally entertaining, but the other one had more episodes and it was an anthology so there was more content to experience, that was its only aspect that makes it better in my opinion.

Mixed Feelings

Its like watching a Beautifull Bird flies that flew down into the pit of nothingness, the First Episode were the bird is flying elegantly , but as its progression to the episode 2, its wings towards to the pit. and so on...

Just like other junji ito's adaptation anime , this one is the worse imo, just because of the rushed plot and quality of the show is lacking quality control and some management issue over production . even they admitted it. The visual is the one thing that keep me watching this show to the finals. its the one that consistent over the whole show ... , the Manga aesthetic. The quality on the other hand , keeps falling of after Episode 1 which is odd , considering the time they were spent on this. The plot is just one of the best junji ito's works, they keep some important and touch of the source.

Of course i would try to recommend to THOSE who have will watching the show with everything that its offer.

So bad it's entertaining. Has anyone watched Jim Carey's "The Number 23"? This is pretty much the anime equivalent of that. But instead of the main character obsessing over the number and seeing it everywhere and losing his mind over mere coincidences and thinking that the world is trying to tell him something, this anime does that but the characters see spirals everywhere. But the main difference between the two is, the anime has over-the-top and hilariously grotesque visuals that add to the hilarity of how absurd this plot even is.

I get it some people get obsessed over the dumbest things, but to have to ... watch four episodes of the same downward spiral of characters collectively losing their minds as everyone sees spirals in everything and as people literally get turned into some Lovecraftian form of a spiral is entertaining as hell so long as you treat this like it's a B-Movie and just prepare yourself to laugh. That's how I treated it and I joked with my wife that we should've made it into a drinking game where we take a shot every time one of the characters says the word "spiral" in the dub. Well worth the watch just to laugh. But obviously cannot recommend on any standpoint other than the artstyle is so unique and I would love to see better anime try to implement a similar style.
