I'm wondering if this is just a re-cut recap of the east blue arc that uses the original art, or if they re-drew it all in 16:9 HD.
I'm hoping it's the latter, it'd be really cool if they re-drew all of the most important scenes for us.

It's 100% redone, but in terms of drawing appeal it is, given my taste in aesthetics, mostly inferior. The characters look less cartoony, the cinematography isn't as inventive and the use of digital inking & colors can feel bland. That's not to say it's bad at all, in fact it's obviously above-average by general anime standards - I just see it as inferior to the old TV anime, which I think is some of Toei's best work, from what I've seen. The low budget forced them to make the individual drawings & their compositions pop out as much as possible and god damn did they succeed.

BUT. I don't regret watching this, because the redone animation was really nice and revisiting the old stories gave me a nice nostalgia trip. Even if the art is IMO inferior it was very cool seeing the battles I experienced all those years ago, animated with such fluidity and cool choreography.
