Two very different treatments of very similar themes, those themes being large-scale questions of human moral responsibility. Parasyte weaves these themes into a more intricate, tightly constructed plot, whereas Devilman addresses them with much greater pathos. If you enjoyed one of these series for its philosophical, moral themes, definitely check out the other.

Hideaki Anno admits that Devilman and Mazinger Z were his biggest influences for Neon Genesis Evangelion. The main protagonist in both anime must fight against evil monsters that are trying to destroy humanity. They both have similar religious and philosophical themes. They are also both action-packed anime as well. If you like one, you may like the other.

If the nightmare fuel, eclipse-esque monster designs and gore did not already make it clear that Berserk was inspired HEAVILY by Devilman, the last few episodes most certainly do... for entirely different reasons. Seriously: after finishing Crybaby, there can be little doubt over which work was most directly responsible when Miura came up with his own series. Thanks to Crybaby, I got to understand how Griffith came to be, as well as watching something quite special. Can't ask for much more than that, really: enjoyment and insight.

Kemonozume is another of Masaaki Yuasa's works and has many similar themes. Kemonozume has a much looser more experimental style of animation and it arguably less polished than 2018's Devilman, but if you've developed a taste for Yuasa's direction after finishing Devilman Crybaby then I'd say you are ready to take on this series.

Hyper gory and sexual with a weak person getting something that makes them stand out in strength. Similar melancholic feeling endings.

The Devilman manga had a huge influence of Hideaki Anno, and Evangelion borrows several ideas and themes from it, so it is obvious that both anime share some similarities. The End of Evangelion is very similar to the ending of Devilman, as they both share similar imagery, religious motifs and the battle of humans against monsters.

Both shows eventually evolve into stories that include the theme of Man vs Monster; Showing us the darker parts of humanity and making us question who are the truly evil ones.

Tokyo Ghoul and Devilman: Crybaby are both horror anime with a similar dark and gritty tone. Both protagonists are struggling to keep their humanity intact while battling against evil supernatural monsters trying to destroy humanity. Both are action-packed anime with lots of blood and gore. If you like one, you will enjoy the other.

I'm recommending these series based on how they're both dark tragedies with the main character going through a lot of suffering in their day-to-day lives simply because of a nightmare appearing both figuratively and literally. Both series employ a dark pallet and similar character styles that are going to appeal to a certain audience.

A lot of gore, diabolic design and plot twists.

CSM is heavily inspired by Devilman. Crybaby is the most recent and present Devilman entry. If you enjoyed Crybaby or any of the larger Devilman franchise, definitely give the CSM anime a go! Both involve a MC that combines with a devil in order to battle other devils. Both have similar imagery and tones.

Hellsing: Ultimate and Devilman Crybaby both deal with an invasion of monsters that plans to wipe out the human race. They are both heavy focus on blood, gore and action with a similar dark and gritty tone. If you enjoyed one, you will enjoy the other.

The psychological anguish felt - hopefully viewers of one are ready for another go with the other. Crybaby - it's not just a nickname for Akira, but more of the viewer as well, yet not in a negative manner. The worlds in these horror series are just that messed up.

Short, intense, dark in tone, visually stunning (often surrealist), god tier soundtracks, plot twists and an increasingly fucked up story with a majestic conclusion.

Both anime have over the top gore and powerful characters, and both explore the meaning of being human and monsters fitting in among people. In my opinion, Devilman Crybaby does it a lot better than Elfen Lied.

1. Very similar main characters. They are similar in their personalities and appearance. Even their movements are similar. If you like the main character of this one, you should watch that anime. 2. Other characters have similarities too. 3. Similar animation style and art in general. 4. Sudden rap in episodes.

Both protagonists involuntarily became vessels to an op demon, but are still able to maintain control over their mind/body and remain "human". They use their powers to fight other demons for the greater good. Especially when others get hurt or are at risk, that's when they really kick into gear. Both series have great action scenes as well.

The main protagonist in both Ajin and Devilman: Crybaby are thrown into a life of darkness and possess a special ability (Kei being immortal and Akira Fudo becoming a demon). In both anime, the main character must gradually gain control of their newfound powers and develop into a more aggressive, formidable, and determined person. They both have a dark and gritty atmosphere and are loaded with violence, action, and blood. If you like one, you might like the other.

When men are cornered by monsters, it can be tough to distinguish the two. If you find yourself yearning for more violent mortality and characters of questionable morality, you might like a quick trip through Devliman CB. While AoT's ongoing story and mystery span seasons, you can get a complete story wrapped in a nice bow from Devilman's ten episodes.

Both are short mature series with heavy emphasis on the occult and sexuality, censoring just about the bare minimum to not receive an R18 rating. Their antagonists are very similar in nature and goals and the protagonists have to stop them to prevent the apocalypse.

Vampire in the Garden and Devilman: Crybaby have bleak storylines that explore the Us-vs-Them mentality between humanity and demons/vampires. Our protagonists in Vampire in the Garden are trying to break free from this the cycle of hate by escaping society, but are pursued because of it. Our protagonist in Devilman: Crybaby is trying to end the cycle of hate by overcoming hate and protecting society, but is persecuted for it. Both anime also has an underlying LGBT theme that motivate the main characters (Ryo/Arkira and Fine/Momo).

Devilman: Crybaby and Kabaneri appear to be in a similar subgenre to Tokyo Ghoul and Attack on Titan: a story where humans fight against a race of monsters that prey on them and a character becomes half-monster against their will. Both series contain a rather dark atmosphere and unique aesthetic, Devilman's being its flat and over the top, but often realistic action and animation. Kabaneri and Crybaby share a sometimes hopeless outlook on things and feature a character's views on humanity and the monsters. In both series, there is a powerful female main character that helps out the protagonist and contributes greatly to the plot,  read more

Both contain demons, with a main character trying to prove he isn't some kind of 'monster' and demons trying to take over the world. Devilman: Crybaby and the Berserk movie trilogy both deal with humans vs demons and have dark, mature content. Akira and Ryo have a similar dynamic to Guts and Griffith. Devilman seems to have a lot of influence from Dance in the Vampire bund, both dealing with humans that transform into monsters, overturning human society, and moral corruption. Their main characters are both teenage boys named Akira, and their love interests (Miki, Yuki) share many similarities. Dance in the Vampire bund was fantasically written, had better cinematography and is a visual masterpiece, whereas Devilman was an imitation version of their script combined with other titles. Highly recommend watching Dance in the Vampire bund first, to make sense of Devilman's content.

There are two defining traits that come to mind when comparing these series. The first and probably most obvious is the supernatural theme. Both Devilman and Mob Psycho feature battles against supernatural forces, often delving into Lovecraftian-levels of horror. The second common trait is the use of unique art styles to create equally-unique character animation. The animators were not afraid to go off-model when creating scenes in both Devilman and Mob Psycho, showcasing warped and squished faces and bodies to excellent effect. The use of sakuga is also prevalent throughout both series. So if you like supernatural horror-action pieces that showcase unique animation styles, you can't  read more

Both Devilman: Crybaby and Mazinger Z: Infinity are modern renditions of Go Nagai's classic works for his 50th Anniversary Despite the VASTLY different approaches to tone and animation style, what they do share in common is over-the-top action, apocalyptic climaxes, and fantastical character designs.

I noticed that people who enjoy DMCB also enjoy Houseki no Kuni so I decided to draw similarities between the two: -uses religious metaphors and irony to illustrate their themes (Houseki w/ Buddhism and Devilman w/ Christianity) - lots of science, history, and astronomy to explain their world - both main characters have Harmartia that they struggle to overcome - themes about loss of innocence, duality of humanity, and makes you question morality;; - avant garde animation styles that integrate both 2D and CG animation

These two anime are basically revisions of two older series by Go Nagai and giving them a new take on the original story. While there is no Mecha in Devilman Crybaby, they both have strange looking monsters trying to kill humanity and a young boy main character that must choose the path of good or evil. These two have plenty of action and story make these two shows perfect for both fans of the series.

Unique animation, surreal imagery, the LGBTQ, girls who run really fast and devils, yes this is what those two anime have in common. Hanamonogatari and Devilman: Crybaby are both shows about a person who gains some magic devil powers and needs to stop another demon (or many other demons in the case of Devilman). Both story's protagonist are more or less canonically homosexual and contrary to most shows with queer characters they actually have a personality apart being queer and just this fact is astonishing. While the settings for these shows are different, they both have a similar tone and content to them. Both of these anime have an anti hero main character that kills monsters. They are also horror anime filled with blood and guts. I recommended both of these shows for anyone who likes anime with a dark atmosphere to them.

Both are anime series with a profound sense of negative emotional intensity, where you know that things can keep getting worse. The level of violence, both symbolically and visually, is something to be highly mindful of. The conclusions of both anime will undoubtedly leave an emotional void in your heart.

Both have similar art styles that betray the standards of typical anime, both utilize elements of religion (demons, angels, God, ect.), both delve into unrealistic worlds in a realistic outlook, both develop an underlying thematic regarding human nature, and both are sparring in their use of background music but make for impactful narrative.

Like many Shonen Devilmans influence shows up again - One character has to watch the other get influenced by darkness and one has to face the consequence of it as they other can not save the person that does not want to be saved or take the consequence for them. - Light and dark hair charters have a deep connection again from a young age - Same empty feeling you will get in the ending

If you've recently watched & enjoyed Crybaby, I'd recommend this short & fun crossover series with Cyborg 009. It's also on netflix (UK at least) at the time of writing. The art style for Cyborg 009 VS Devilman is amazing and actually preferable for me to Crybaby. The OP is iconic and catchy and I can guarantee if you enjoy either series, Devilman or 009, you're bound to love this crossover. The similarity between these animes are that they both have supernatural phenomenas by transformations like humans to beasts in BNA and humans to Demons in Devilman. The worldbuilding to episode pace is similar to both of them from what i can remember having watched Devilman a few years ago and alot of the story/plot in BNA reminds me of Devilman, that's why i made this recommendation. This is my first "Similar Recommentation" ever and i hope i've brought an "correct" opinion on why these two are similar for someone wanting to watch these!

Both artistic, thought provoking, introspective shows that try to show the darker parts of what make us human. Both shows contain hints of philosophy. Both shows are experimental (both art and story-wise) and are both based on an old piece of famous literature. I got very similar vibes while watching both of these. Sure, Devilman Crybaby is a bit more trippy, takes itself less seriously and portrays the symbolism with a different intent... Howeeever I will gamble that the ideas behind these shows are similar enough to make them both worthy of being in a recommendation together. :)

In both, the protagonist is changed into a half human-half monster (vampire/demon) against his will forced by the circumstances and because they wanted to help someone. Both are adaptations that remake some aspects of the source material while still staying faithful to the spirit of the original. They also have highly stylized animation, one with animation style typical for director Yuasa and one with animation style typical for studio Shaft. Both stories employ plot twists.

Extremely dark psychological content (showing both the good and bad of humanity), both involve children/teens who are forced into a conflict of literally cosmic proportions, and both have depressing ends.

They're both centered around a dark coming of age story with a demonic possession as a metaphor for adulthood, with both the erotic and violent content being strongly present. Rivalry in forms of other beings such as angels and demons show up with en emphasis of controlling one's urges as well of the destructive powers one has gained. Romance and loss are present as well since Nightmare Campus was heavily influenced by Devilman.

They are almost identical the only difference is that one is about angels the other about demons, but they treat the same themes of unnatural beings in a mundane world and how they try to protect it and live with that condition.

Hunter x Hunter's Chimera Ant arc shares a lot of themes with Devilman - namely, the dark side of humanity and human nature. The dichotomy between good and evil gets blurred as the "evil" non-human beings display "human" traits such as love while the supposedly "good" humans commit atrocities that are just as awful as what they're fighting against, if not worse. There is also a strong undercurrent of anti-war sentiment.
report Recommended by Neko-Hoshishima
The original Devilman had a pretty heavy influence on Yu Yu Hakusho, which comes through in several ways. Demon fighting is an obvious one, with lots of bloody close-quarters brawls that get your blood pumping. The thematic exploration of evil and human nature is another; being a main theme of Devilman, it is also touched upon in early arcs of YYH and later delved into more deeply in a later arc. Even putting the influence aside, exciting, intense action combines with likable characters and solid writing that makes both of these shows a lot of fun.

Go Nagai's works have had a great influence on CLAMP, and X is one of the most obvious results of that influence. Like Devilman, X is apocalyptic fiction, focusing on the battle of the main character to protect humanity. Human nature, apocalyptic imagery, duality, and religious motifs are front and center.
report Recommended by Neko-Hoshishima
Being modernized adaptations of Go Nagai's works, both of these shows deliver on over-the-top action, inventive visuals, and lots of boobs. Sexuality is front and center. The styles of the directors shine through in each, making both a showcase of unique directorial work. Both have underlying themes about love, although Cutey Honey is ultimately a lot more positive than Devilman. Both shows also feature gay relationships. And as a bonus, Akira and Miki make a cameo appearance in Re: Cutey Honey.
report Recommended by Neko-Hoshishima
Devilman has had a clear influence on SMT and by extension, Persona, and this influence comes through the most in Persona 3. Apocalyptic themes and religious imagery are present here, and many parallels can be drawn between the characters of Ryou Asuka and Ryoji Mochizuki. Connections between people and what it means to be human are also explored.

Karas and Devilman: Crybaby share the same premise: the champion for good vs the champion for evil. Each group is composed of demons, but one side seeks to protect humans whereas the other side wants to dominate them. Karas was celebrated for its high quality animation, which compensated for shortcomings in the storyline. Devilman: Crybaby can be described in the very same way. While Karas simply did not have the episodes count to properly support its storylines, Devilman: Crybaby quickly derails into nonsense yet many people think very highly of the series. Both anime focus on a protagonist who is half-human, half-demon and goes around killing other demons. So, at their core, they're quite similar, plus both are violent and action-packed, although the way the violence is depicted is different. Devilman is darker, and also deals with the psyche and morality of its characters, while DMC is more straightforward.

The influence of the Devilman manga can easily be seen in Berserk, so it is obvious the both anime have similarities as well. The eclipse scene of Berserk is heavily inspired by Devilman for several reasons, and both anime share similar character archetypes, themes, monsters, gore, sex, violence and depravity.

"Look at how big the monster inside of me has become." - Johan Liebheart They both imply a kind-hearted main character who believes in life and also tries to save people, but there's also a secondary blonde character who knows and has seen the humankind's darkest side. During the beginning for Devilman and Fullmetal Alchemist, Akira Fudo turns half human, half demon whereas Edward Elric loses arm and legs and Alphonse loses whole body parts. Both include sad scenes that make you cry like a baby.

Demons transform and kick devil was. Lot of nudity situations in both Cry baby has some sex too which HS DxD doesn't have. both are enjoyable.

Both are about transforming superheroes who are mis understood and fight their own kind, with apocalyptic and biblical themes abound.

Both involve high school students gaining absurd powers. Both have tons of blood and violence. Both get more serious towards the end. Both have a lot of unnecessary fanservice which thankfully doesn't get in the way of the plot at all. Both have great OSTs. A lot of similarities here. If you liked one you will for sure like the other.

While these shows don't have anything in common plot-wise, they have a similar origin: they're both manga from the 60s and 70s that got a "modernizing" reboot in 2018. "Modernizing" because while the story, characters, and pacing are kept untouched, they're both re-set to our days, updating also the conflicts and the criticism made to society to make it match with today's problems.

If you liked the humor and sexual content of DEVILMAN Crybaby, you might like this show. Deals with demons, angels, and sex, but this is a comedy show with a lighter-toned, less mature narrative.

Both are very stylistic and irreverent. Although they have very different tones, they are similar in pacing.

In both shows the supernatural appears bit by bit in the modern world threatening its peace. Both MCs are regarded as good even if they dont fight for the world but for their personal reasons and their enemies as evil because the things they are doing disturb the peace of the world.

Both anime focus on protagonists who have a special power which makes other humans see them as a threat. We follow these characters as they develop their powers, mature, and try to keep their humanity intact by difficult moral choices. Lots of action and violence in both anime as well.

Both deal with very dark and disturbing themes that have shaken anime to its core.

Another work involving Masaaki Yuasa. They explore different themes, but both have an art style with an experimental feel to it.

While there is a dozen of other obvious recommendations of anime similar to Devilman: Crybaby I find it pretty surprising no one mentioned Texhnolyze. Disclaimer: Do not be surprised you got disappointed if you looked at Texhnolize as an action-packed experience like Crybaby. The similarities can be found in the second half of the story atmosphere and emotional impact on the viewer. At first, they aren't even that similar as Texhnolyze isn't even an anime about demons but during the second half of the two shows, they are similarly despair-inducing, extremely cruel and torturous to watch even. Do not be fooled. These are both equally cruel and  read more

If you liked the societal manipulation aspect of the show and want to see the concept explored more deeply, Gatchaman Crowds does an impeccable job displaying a world under the influence of an other-worldly and demonic being from the governmental, public and individual levels. Gatchaman Crowds also sports stunning and exceptional visuals with deep, unique characters all while flaunting a marvelous electronic soundtrack.

They both have a slightly BL relationship between the two main characters with similar dynamics in terms of moral tension. The characters were friends from when they were young and parent-less. There are some shared themes of existentialism, Biblical references (angels, demons, apocalypse), war between different species (humans and demons/vampires), & characters with dubious intentions.Seraph of the End is a more light-hearted and typical Shounen, while Devilman is very dark and psychologically disturbing.
