Wherever you are, RIP.

I really like your Strawberry Panic review. In a 2018 anime titled 'Citrus', a similar Yuri drama, the setting is a similar all-girls school. But it uses that as an excuse to make the characters lesbian. One of the girls even says something like "What can we do? It's an all-girls school and we're overflowing with hormones. Gotta take em out somehow". So since I don't have much exposure to Yuri, I saw someone talking about how horrible that excuse is and recommending 'Strawberry Panic!'s take on it. This got me interested in watching the show.

At first, it was kinda weird but I gave it some more time. After that, the anime slowly stood on its own two feet and it was honestly really nice to see the characters finding out about their feelings for each other. It was a pretty decent 6-7/10 by the time I finished episode 17 and went to sleep yesterday. Starting from episode 18 till the end, I could only roll my eyes to the back of my head every time the show tried to pad runtime by adding the next bit of drama and resolving it within minutes. Conflicts that were resolved long ago were suddenly brought up and over-dramaticized. Even at episode 24 we got new conflicts that needed to be resolved when there were many previous ones still unresolved. The entire election arc at the finale was complete and utter disappointment.

I really appreciated how most of the characters developed feelings for each other. They bloomed like the beginning of any love story. Mutual respect, admiration, seeing each other as equals and just spending time together. Of course, it doesn't mean those things will always lead to romance and that too was addressed in the anime. I was really expecting much from the end. But my bad. It seems like it's the first Yuri anime and the first anime in general for many people. And looking at their love for it I was kinda worried that I missed something important. But maybe it's just nostalgia blanket. The show isn't even dated by today's standards, it's just awfully rushed near the end which is noticeable no matter what era you live in.

Thank you for taking the effort to share the same sentiment as mine. Take care.

Ah, I kind of assumed you were a fan of shoujo ai in that your disparaging comments on Strawberry Panic! sort of reflect a better appreciation for the genre. It's kind of hard to find shoujo ai shows that take themselves and their topics seriously, hence why I ask. I'll be sure to check out those suggestions, thanks!

Your review of Strawberry Panic was spot on. I don't know why so many people seem to hold it in high regard; I've always considered it a thinly veiled excuse for girl on girl fan service.

That being said, I recently finished and loved Aoi Hana and Sasameki Koto, and was wondering if you could suggest other shoujo ai tonally similar to the two. I am hesitant to put credence in the suggestions on the pages of the anime themselves.

What else is good this season? I haven't really been following much besides DTB... I've only watched a few first episodes here and there, planning on downloading the rest when I find the time.

Ah, wow, I haven't checked this section in a long time... Sorry for the late reply. :s

I was really excited about the show for the first few episodes, but admittedly, it's kinda petered out over time. Personally, I think the second season is a decent little after/side story, but that's about it. If anything, it feels to me like a really long episode, broken into twelve parts instead of the usual two.

The action scenes are pretty damn awesome, while they last. Suou is a likeable character, most of the time. It still looks and sounds great (even without Kanno Yoko). Most of the new contractors have been pretty interesting, too.

Trouble is, it needs more Hei--a lot more Hei. The idea of finding out what happens to him after the end of the first season was really appealing, but what we're getting instead is a silly side story with an unfamiliar main character that drags on quite a bit too long. I'd be perfectly fine with this format if it were a two-part episode, a la the first season, but the way they're doing it is rather tiresome.

All in all, it's reasonably enjoyable, but it definitely pales in comparison to its predecessor.
