These anime and donghua take place during the Three Kingdoms Era of ancient China or star characters from that time period. The classic Chinese novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms takes place during the Three Kingdoms Era, featuring famous Chinese warlords and political figures like Liu Bei, Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, Cao Cao, Zhuge Liang, and Sima Yi. Many of these anime are period dramas, although the list also includes some cases where characters have time-traveled or reincarnated into the present day.
