This is my list of the most legendary mahou shoujo anime, coming from a place of wanting to appreciate and uplift traditional mahou shoujo in a world where seemingly every new one that comes out is a grimdark Madoka wannabe. Containing high levels of badass is a requirement. Expect strong themes of female friendship and companionship, subversion/deconstruction of "normal" gender roles, themes of personal growth and maturity, and occasionally romance. This list's best function would be to guide people newer to the genre as to what the good shit to watch is. Note that this list can and will grow as I continue to explore around the genre and that new-age mahou shoujo isn't strictly exempt, but that there will be a strong focus on normal mahou shoujo here.
