Decided to start reading manga starting with a series whose title begins with a number and move on to a series whose title begins with A then B etc.

Technically the second, the actual first one i dropped even though i was just a couple of letters away from completing it XD.Will give rating and thoughts/short review on each series as i go.

Upon Completion:

Final Score: 7.07

Favourite Entry: Sanctuary
Most Disappointing Entry: Deadman Wonderland
Surprise Hit: Q and A
11-nin Iru!
Manga, 1 vol, 1975 Me:- Author:7
Though sort of disappointed by the ending and wishing it was a couple of volumes longer to flesh out the characters, i consider it a pretty good mystery in the style of Agatha Christie. 7/10
Akai Hebi
Manga, 1 vol, 1983 Me:- Author:7
Pretty good horror story that Hino fans can enjoy, ending felt like an easy way to wrap the story which didn't sit all that well with me but kind of fits i suppose. 7/10
Black-Box
Manga, 6 vol, 2015 Me:- Author:8
Beautiful manga, quick read and full of action. Great for fans of more adult themes outside of the ring/field of sports. Fast paced, maybe a bit too fast to be honest. You will probably enjoy it if you like your martial arts manga action packed and kind of shallow in depth. The ending felt a bit rushed which took away from the story's last attempt at emotional depth. Definitely deserves more recognition from sports manga fans. 8/10
Color Engineering
Manga, 1 vol, 2011 Me:- Author:5
Even if you are a fan of the author I can't see this being one of his best works. The colours combined with the ambitious artwork make it difficult to follow a manga that is mostly wordless, defeating the purpose of the whole concept. There are glimpses of cool imagery and ideas but not enough to improve my view of it. 5/10
Deadman Wonderland
Manga, 13 vol, 2007 Me:- Author:5
While not outright bad, the series fails to utilise what makes it stand out to it's fullest potential. Couple that with characters that mostly just aren't interesting and never really get interesting at any point throughout the series and the result is just a boring, albeit inoffensive series. 5/10
El Alamein no Shinden
Manga, 1 vol, 1996 Me:- Author:5
Just another anthology in a sea of many in my opinion. Unless the war theme suits your taste I can't really see anyone liking it all that much to call it anything but average. 5/10
Fuan no Tane+
Manga, 4 vol, 2007 Me:- Author:6
Although by no means an average anthology like my previous read, it definitely feels like the author's creative patterns have run their course and began to feel less and less exciting. Fuan no Tane+ is still capable of creeping you out especially if read at night, but for all i know i have been reading the same stories over and over again just with a different, weird-looking face to stare back at me in the darkness. 6/10
Gin no Saji
Manga, 15 vol, 2011 Me:- Author:9
Great slice of life series with lovable characters and a plot that doesn't forget when to be serious amidst all the humour. Even though not much seems to go down in terms of action it still manages to captivate and keep you reading until the great conclusion. We could use a series like this from time to time. 9/10
Haruka na Machi e
Manga, 2 vol, 1998 Me:- Author:7
Another trip into the nostalgia of youth from the mangaka. With nothing really making it stand out too much from other time-traveling stories, it makes for a pretty chill read nonetheless, quite possibly due to the author's chill approach to writing. Has it's emotional moments and doesn't overstay it's welcome or feel underwritten despite it's length. 7/10
Imomushi
Manga, 1 vol, 2009 Me:- Author:8
It may just be the fact that i have a soft spot for Suehiro Maruo's work (which probably doesn't look good on anyone's resume) but i can't help but admire his style, no matter how hard it is to read sometimes. Much like another one of his adaptations (Panorama Island) he nails the atmosphere needed to translate a work of literature. Just wished it was a bit longer. 8/10
JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken Part 8: JoJolion
Manga, 27 vol, 2011 Me:- Author:9
I consider it the only Part that can truly compete with Part 7 in terms of which is the best JoJo part. Moving away from the grand stage of SBR, JoJolion tells a much more personal story that still communicates in typical JoJo shenanigans. Also the stands are more situational and (seemingly) weaker than ever... which is how i like my stands. 9/10
Koisuru Kiseichuu
Manga, 3 vol, 2018 Me:- Author:6
This manga takes two characters with interesting fears and ways of coping with them and proceeds to rush their entire development and journey to overcome them for favour of getting closer and closer to the romance as fast as possible. It had my interest but failed to meet expectations that could have easily been surpassed if the mangaka just took their time adapting the story. 6/10
Louvre no Neko
Manga, 2 vol, 2016 Me:- Author:7
Taiyo Matsumoto is my favourite mangaka of all time. Although i wouldn't call this his best work it certainly maintains his distinctive style enough to win me over. Kinda wish it were longer though, there are still plot points that could have been explored further. 7/10
Mohican-zoku no Saigo
Manga, 1 vol, 1953 Me:- Author:6
Despite the barebones approach to storytelling and the old-school art style this manga is charming enough for me to recommend to those interested in manga before the age of shounen (90s). 6/10
Neji
Manga, 1 vol, 1992 Me:- Author:6
This series just needed to be a couple of volumes longer to sell the concepts and ideas that it was going for. However, for as short as it was, i did appreciate the artwork and what little plot the mangaka scrambled to put together. 6/10
One Piece
Manga, ? vol, 1997 Me:- Author:10
Wow... And i thought the series started peaking at Alabasta. Not much to say except that this saga truly deserves its rating in my opinion. This is truly the point where the world of One Piece opens up both in terms of scale and in terms of depth. 10/10 (Water 7 Saga)
Ping Pong Dash!!
Manga, 15 vol, 2004 Me:- Author:7
Though by no means perfect, with a couple of annoying/underdeveloped characters and some panels that betray the mangaka's struggle with anatomy every once in a while, this series proved to be a fun surprise that put a new spin on the sports genre by sprinkling in some delinquent vibes. 7/10
Q and A
Manga, 6 vol, 2009 Me:- Author:9
First time i read a manga from this mangaka and i immediately fell in love with the artstyle. I feel like it could be twice or three times as long and it would still work as an episodic gag manga. Found it really funny despite its tendency to lean into the perverted kind of humour a bit too much. The ending was a bit unexpected but still a very pleasant surprise. 9/10
Rapid Commuter Underground
Manga, 1 vol, 2012 Me:- Author:7
Despite its short length and how niche the idea behind this manga feels, i still found myself enjoying this short and quite weird train ride. Nothing too spectacular but definitely nowhere near bad or bland in any way. 7/10
Sanctuary
Manga, 12 vol, 1990 Me:- Author:10
A fantastic gangster story with the aesthetic of something like The Godfather. A double inside-job for the ages. Great characters and pacing that never lets things get too slow or two fast. A must-read for any fan of crime thrillers or gangster flicks. Probably not as action packed as other more modern series but still a captivating read. 10/10
Tokyo Tribe
Manga, 1 vol, 1993 Me:- Author:6
A neat little manga about reckless rebellion that hopefully fleshes out it's ideas in the sequels that follow. Rough around the edges but still somewhat enjoyed seeing the potential that will hopefully be tapped into in Tokyo Tribe 2. 6/10
Ultra Heaven
Manga, 3 vol, 2001 Me:- Author:7
I see why this series is basically cancelled. While i can sit here and say to you that the concepts and the way this series explores them, especially addiction, is what makes this manga great, i would be lying. I and everyone one else who read this knows its really all about the trippy art. It's kinda sad to see it incomplete. 7/10
Vahlia no Hanamuko
Manga, 1 vol, 2007 Me:- Author:6
A cool little anthology that does a good job at introducing stories that could and arguably should have been series of their own. The fact that these shorts don't get enough time to evolve story wise and artistically means we are left with what could have been. It's a kind of "suffering from success" feeling. 6/10
Watashitachi no Shiawase na Jikan
Manga, 1 vol, 2008 Me:- Author:6
I finally get around to reading a romance manga that a lot of people praise and i realise that it just didn't really click for me. The main reason for this is simply the fact that i don't spend enough time with the characters to care all that much. The story doesn't really work well enough as a single volume, in my opinion. I wish it would have been closer to 4-5 volumes and then i could appreciate what this story tries to do. 6/10
XS Hybrid
Manhwa, 5 vol, 2003 Me:- Author:7
A cool little action series with enough cool factor to make itself a worthwhile read despite it lacking anything that could set it apart from the rest and boost it's popularity. 7/10
Yokokuhan
Manga, 3 vol, 2011 Me:- Author:7
An modern take on the cat and mouse- style thriller that could have been written a bit less on the nose-y but still manages to carve it's own path in the genre. 7/10
Zansho
Manga, 1 vol, 2004 Me:- Author:8
A fantastic collection of sad and bittersweet stories that made me want to see them as fully fledged series, though that might take away from some of the emotional impact that they have. 8/10
