This may sound slightly strange but it's a refreshingly violent anime and one in which the violence isn't portrayed as a negative thing like some anime's. The main characters love violence and as you watch more and more you will see why. The violence isn't downplayed as something "the hero must do achieve his goals" because there's no hero like character. And this is why it's refreshing because it's good to see an anime that has violence for the sake of violence and that increases the entertainment factor for me a lot (although not for everyone).
However it lacks an emotive story or really any indication that a story exists. Their is a small amount of romance that is implied but not acted upon or spoken about by the main characters. What I'm trying to say is that people should not watch this expecting romance or a story line that will move you to tears. It does however more than make up for that with excellent character creation (but not development). In any other show other than black lagoon these characters would be seen as the villains, not here their psychopathic tenancies make them hilariously funny when it comes to to both fighting scenes and non fighting scenes and makes them very lovable.
All in all it is a good anime for those of us who love hilarious psychopaths who crave fighting.
It would be a bad anime to watch if prefer a good story line with romance and a plot emphasizing character development.
