I really like this series. It is a little older so the animation and sound isn't what we're now used to, but the story and characters are fun to watch. There's a bit of mystery surrounding the main character, and he has a great sense of right and wrong. The relationships he builds with Rin and Sakura (a couple of girls that are in fact supposed to be his competition but are his friends) are what set him apart from the rest of his competition, and it's these relationships that help him throughout the series. Even though he's a "mage" he's not all powerful and he doesn't know a lot of magic. He himself is quite heroic, and he stays true to his character throughout the story.

I like that his summoned hero trains him to be a part of the battles so he can protect himself. He doesn't want to sit by and watch someone get hurt for him which is quite admirable. It's a completely different feel than it's prequel Fate/Zero. There is a lot of love in this story, and when you're battling for the holy grail, it's good to have a little hope. Pieces of the storys mysteries are unraveled throughout, and it's intelligently done. There's good character development, and they squeeze a lot of emotion into this story.

This is a must watch, but do watch this before the prequel (Fate/Zero), as it will eliminate a few holes in that story.
