On its own, without thinking of the manga or OAV(Hellsing Ultimate), this is a great anime. It was in fact this anime which pulled me into the Hellsing fandom.
It's got a fairly good plot, it's got action packed into every episode, great music - I mean really great, with sprinkles of humour for good measure. It's very much an addictive 'edge of your seat 'till the end' kinda anime. Really does get your blood pumping, which I think is to do with spirit all the characters have when fighting for the Hellsing cause.
However, bring the manga it was based upon into the picture and the anime falls short. But to be fair the manga is amazing, the plot is much much much better, the action is even more crammed in and it's just well, more kick arse.
So what do I rate this with? It's a must watch anime, I think every anime fan should see it because yes it is THAT good. It could have been better, the OAV may see to that, but on its own it's still THAT good. Once you've watched it and you're craving more read the manga and then bask in the OAV 'cos this is one heck of a story, most definitely took my breath and heart away.
