Eden of the East is certainly a refreshing anime that has a really interesting premise. I had expected a sci-fi/action/mystery genres anime before I watched this show. I was surprised to find that this show has minimum sci-fi and action elements. Despite this, I was still impressed with the show.

The storyline is solid and inventive, and has some plot twists that keep the audience entertained in every episode. The show is presented in a laid-back atmosphere. In fact, too laid-back for a show that has a lot of suspense in the beginning. The true strength of this show is not mystery or suspense, though, but that it deals with many issues that are relevant to our world today. For example, this show portrays how young people nowadays have difficulty integrating into the society.
Overall, the story is well done, but do not expect an epic conclusion.

The art is decent. Definitely watch Eden in 720p. The sound, though, is lacking in many ways. The OP and ED are just ... bad.

The characters are generally well portrayed. Akira Takizawa, the protagonist, is one of the coolest anime characters that I have seen. He has incredibly charisma, a laid-back attitude about everything, an unshakable confidence in himself, and balls of steel. This one character defines this show. However, while some characters are likable, there are many others that are annoying, shallow, or not developed enough.

I have enjoyed this show. This show has a lot of "situational comedy", for which I define as comedy that only makes sense in context of the plot and arises from plot development.

Overall: 8/10.
Story & Art: 8/10
Sound: 6/10
Character & Enjoyment: 9/10

PS: don't forget to watch the 2 Eden movies after finishing the TV series if you liked this show. The 2 movies are essentially the conclusion for the TV series. Don't expect the movies to be spectacular, though.
