It's perfection. The plot is enticing enough to keep you interested, but not excessive enough to seem fast-paced or cliché. Likewise, the characters are all lovable in their own way, and yet somewhat realistic.
There are hints of romance here and there, if that's your cup of tea than... good, if not, it's fairly easy to ignore.
Being an anime on samurai, it obviously has action scenes, vioence, and flashy sword fights. But again, that's not really the main focus.
The main focus is most likely the character study. If you like awesome characters, samurai, romance, action, and zombies (not really a spoiler), then this anime is for you.
