An anime about the journey, not the end.

This atmosphere that correlates past and future is absurdly incredible. The first scene of the first episode is a parallel between the contemporary world and the Edo period (a period in Japan that is a transition between eras). The anime's narration itself introduces modern elements to the era of the past, and this correlation is also presented in cultural elements (music, sports and art) in the characters. This anime is very similar to Cowboy Bebop, but I still think that Cowboy Bebop is more consistent. It has the same episodic structure that follows a chronological course and develops the characters gradually, where too a lot is exposed towards the end of the anime. Basically the same plots, a group of people who live together on a daily basis, start out poor and end up interconnecting even when they try to deal with personal issues.

And one of the main elements of Watanabe's anime that is extremely important in Cowboy Bebop is the music. Hip-hop is an essential element in the cinematography and structure of the anime, its shots and cuts are rhythmic in a way. Hip-hop represents this repetitive and rhythmic journey in a way. Nujabes was perfect in the ost of this anime
