Mixed Feelings
Let's begin by saying that Durarara has all the makings of an outstanding anime; the characters are involving and deep to some extent, the build-up of the story to the conclusion is engaging and enticing, and it really makes you want to watch the next episode as soon as possible.

That being said, where the anime falls apart is its inability to pull all this together and reach an acceptable catharsis at the end. As I said the story is engaging and it makes you want to keep watching. The build-up heading to the end is outstanding and you really begin to care about where the characters are going to end up, but this only makes the flimsy conclusion all the more disappointing.

From a more technical perspective, the story is good, a little bit average, but good. It's engaging and if not for the ending would be very good. There's nothing to really say about the art, it's pretty good and doesn't take away from the experience. The same could pretty much be said about the sound also. The characters as previously stated are good and make you care about them, but the score for enjoyment takes a hit because of the way they end the story.

Bottom line though, it's not a terrible anime all things considered the story leading up to the end is actually a little above average. On the other side of things the ending is so poor that the anime winds up somewhere just below average. If you want to know whether to watch this anime, I'd say don't go out of your way to watch it, but if you've got some extra time and nothing to do go for it, the story is enjoyable enough.
