One word to describe this anime: Bland. It is popcorn fluff that tries its hardest and succeeds at being neither terribly creative nor terribly offensive. I have seen quite a few reviews on here lauding it as the greatest anime ever created and even a few calling it the worst ever. I agree with neither of these, the show is merely Studio Bones or whoever made it trying to fill in the space between airings of larger more developed projects.
The Story 2/10
If you have ever seen a fluff anime before you already know what the story is going to be, girl meets boy. Girl falls
...
for boy, something gets in the way, boy basically admits to being in love with her, is empowered to stay the same to be with her and finally he beats the bad guy. The side stories never go on for long enough to be boring and distract from the main story, or interesting enough to make you want to see more about it. The characters (which we’ll get to later) have some ability to grow, but it is stifled by the short run of the show and the desire to keep the show as bland and fluffy as possible; the final scene of the show hints at more to come in a season that will never come.
The Animation 7/10
The animation is fine; I never found it distracting I know little to nothing about animation. From what I can surmise it was not poor enough to keep me from enjoying the show nor impressive enough to merit any special credit from me. If you liked the animation style from Code Geass, you’ll probably like this style also.
The Sound 7/10
The sounds are fine. The voice acting was pretty good, there wasn’t really much need to really test voice actors as just about nothing happened the whole anime, but they were overall pretty good. The intro and ending songs were pretty good on their own, but didn’t fit as well as I would have liked with this type of anime, however in keeping with the theme of basically this whole review it wasn’t overly offensive and didn’t really merit any special attention. Just listen to it and judge for yourself:

The Characters 8/10
The characters are flat. They don’t evolve at all throughout the course of the entire anime. When they do grow the slightest amount it feels forced, and the character you are left dealing with doesn’t even seem like the character you’ve been watching for the past ten episodes. Another problem this anime suffers from relating to this is the effective white-washing of all of its characters into this blob of good and evil characters. It almost seems like the writer thought up all of the characters in the beginning, set up whole arcs for them to explore and evolve and then at some point in the implementation of the show, someone from up top showed up and said that’s all cool and stuff but I need this this and this in the show, and you only have this long to do it in. This meant that that deep back-story the writer had planned where the character evolves over the course of ten episodes had to be cut down to 1 and now he had a goal to meet for his character.
All of this being said, however, I find it much more important that an audience be able to relate to and fall in love with the characters in the show, and this show does that impeccably. While they may not have been deep by the end, it was hard to not fall in love with the characters in the show, and there is something to be said about that.
The Enjoyment 9/10
Despite the show’s obvious downfalls, I definitely say the fluff is well worth watching at least once. It won’t change the way you think about anything or really stick out in any way when you try thinking back to it later, but mind-numbing popcorn blandness is good for you every once in a while.
Overall 7/10
Overall, this show is nothing special; enjoyable with fun to watch characters no doubt, but not worth the time if you’re looking for anything more than something to pass the time watching. I doubt I’ll ever want to rewatch it a later point in time or even that I’ll be able to remember the name of it, but I don’t regret sitting down to watch this enjoyable waste of time.

Let's begin by saying that Durarara has all the makings of an outstanding anime; the characters are involving and deep to some extent, the build-up of the story to the conclusion is engaging and enticing, and it really makes you want to watch the next episode as soon as possible.
That being said, where the anime falls apart is its inability to pull all this together and reach an acceptable catharsis at the end. As I said the story is engaging and it makes you want to keep watching. The build-up heading to the end is outstanding and you really begin to care about
...
where the characters are going to end up, but this only makes the flimsy conclusion all the more disappointing.
From a more technical perspective, the story is good, a little bit average, but good. It's engaging and if not for the ending would be very good. There's nothing to really say about the art, it's pretty good and doesn't take away from the experience. The same could pretty much be said about the sound also. The characters as previously stated are good and make you care about them, but the score for enjoyment takes a hit because of the way they end the story.
Bottom line though, it's not a terrible anime all things considered the story leading up to the end is actually a little above average. On the other side of things the ending is so poor that the anime winds up somewhere just below average. If you want to know whether to watch this anime, I'd say don't go out of your way to watch it, but if you've got some extra time and nothing to do go for it, the story is enjoyable enough.

I am sure everyone is going to yell at me for what I am about to write, and put me on some hate list, so let me begin by apologizing to anyone I enfuriate with this review. Needless to say, this is one of my least favorite animes, and it just sort of rubbed me the wrong way. I believe it best to list the positives the anime has before I go into the negatives, it does an excellent job of setting up a sense of realism and a pretty good job of drawing you in. Additionally, it sets up a good
...
sense of normalcy and its really easy to follow the logical progression of the story. The voice actors and the art are good, they're not exceptional by any stretch of the imagination, but they can help to immerse you in the story.
There are two problems I have with this story. The first is even though each episode is seperate, they should have some sense of overarching story, and unless it's force-fed to you that is almost non-existant in this anime. As a matter of fact, it wasn't until about half-way through the second story that I was given confirmation that I was even watching the same character as in the first episode. Now my largest problem is one which is probably exclusively my own is the fact that it's just a depressing anime. Yeah, I can already feel the hate posts, but I feel that the characters are flat and to be fair too real for me to enjoy. What I mean is that you never really witness the characters evolve throughout the story, they evolve in the space between each episode but you never really witness it. As to the realism part to avoid spoilers let's just say that they give up and I'm torn between whether your supposed to feel bad for the main character or just accept him.
So I apologize to whoever I just offended, please hit helpful or not helpful and drop me a comment to let me know what I'm doing right, and what I'm doing wrong. Thanks for reading.

What can we say about hayate no gotoku? Well, the first thing I can say with a large amount of confidence is that overall it's a pretty good anime, the comedy is usually pretty funny, and the action is fast-paced enough to keep it exciting, but not overbearing. By the same token, it's not great, it's comedy is not drop-dead hilarious, the action doesn't bring you to the edge of your seat, and it does not bring anything really ground-breaking to the anime industry. This anime does a great job of establishing a sense of normalcy, and does a great job with
...
characters that aren't too deep establishing a few funny quirks for you to learn about for each character. These are both the anime's strongest qualities and its weakest point; the characters rarely have any depth at all and seem to be cookie-cutter molds of the industry, but that doesn't make them bad characters, cookie-cutter molds exist for a reason, because its what people like. Also, the normalcy is impressive, but no real story climax results from it, even though what happens in the last few episodes might be considered a climax as I've said before it doesn't really make you grip the edge of your seat in anticipation.
If you're debating whether or not to watch this anime, I would suggest trying it out for a few episodes, and if the character of Hayate and the first 2 or 3 episodes don't do anything for you this anime is not for you. Also, this anime is a harem-style anime, but it manages to keep it pg, so not too much fan service for those of you that are into that.
