Toaru Kagaku no Railgun is a series that means quite a lot to me, its a story that blends slice of life, action, a unique power system and an emotional narrative perfectly. Railgun is a spin off to the parent series Toaru Majutsu no Index that tells the story of Misaka Mikoto and her group of friends in academy city. This spin off in particular focuses on the science side of academy city unlike index which focuses on the magic side, Misaka being the focal point of the series and fan favorite among many is one of the biggest highlights of the show. We see Misaka slowly understand more about academy city's innerworkings while also learning more about herself. Her friend group consisting of Kuroko, Saten and Uihara all play major roles in the story of railgun while fleshing out the cast and elevating Misaka's character development to new heights.

Railgun is primarily a mix of slice of life, sci-fi and action, the slice of life blends well with the main plot as it heavily develops Misaka and the supporting cast so that when the plot really kicks in it truly feels rewarding. The soundtrack, openings and endings are all amazing ranging from Iuchi Maikos work on the primary ost to fripSide's work on the openings to ELISA's work on the endings such as one of my new favorite endings "Dear My Friend -Mada Minu Mirai e-". Touma (the main character of Index) also makes appearances in railgun season 1 and its always a highlight to see his interactions with Misaka. Toaru has one of my favorite settings and Railgun is one of the major contributors to my appreciation for this series. I highly recommend railgun if you believe you would enjoy a slice of life, sci-fi story, its truly one of a kind.
