I’ve just had an epiphany when finishing this that the concept of a tutor is quite over done in romance mangas, but putting that bias aside, this is just a solid wholesome manga, a little more and nothing less. There’s not any unnecessary drama nor is there a multitude of side characters that antagonize the main cast’s courage or relationship; now, that can be a good or bad thing depending on what you enjoy more.
Wholesome mangas work for a reason: they have wonderful characters and a “satisfaction” moment. However, for this, there aren’t those really well-developed and set out characters, as the reasoning for the doki doki moments don’t quite make sense for the characters, so they are already pretty detached from relatability. That being said, realism isn’t everything in a manga, but the characters still aren’t as deep as you’d like nor is the plot; speaking of the plot, the author doesn’t set up any future events, in other words, the plot is close-minded.
Despite this, the plot works and is engaging, since there is visible progression in each event and conflict. From the singular conflict in each close-minded arc, there’s more and more progression and moments of realization that the characters undergo through visible or subtle change in their actions or thoughts. It’s rare nowadays for there to be plot and character development in a romcom no matter how single-focused the plot is.
Though there are some negative aspects regarding the character and plot depth, the simplicity of each surprisingly makes great chemistry within the main cast. Also, a huge positive is that the art is stunning, which makes the manga all the more enticing and engaging.
Yeah, that’s about it. The manga is a wholesome, good tutor manga with a nice trope. Give it a shot if you like relatively wholesome shoujo-like shounen romance mangas.
