An exploration of the world through characters outside of it, that is the axis of this post-apocalyptic narration, it never ends up revealing exactly what the causes were because it doesn't matter, you only needed to imagine the excuse you prefer in order to tell the key elements, the cute protagonic pair, Chito and Yuuri.
They have opposite personalities, Chito is attentive and studious, while Yuuri is more relaxed and calm, daily they complement each other in their journeys through the world dyed in white. The structure of the manga will quickly become apparent after reading a few chapters, the pair arrive at a certain location, find or observe something, "reflect" on what they have seen, use it or prepare to go to the next location. There is also a main objective that will be defined later, and from time to time you will find aspects covered in more chapters than usual.
It benefits from the small amount of chapters that the manga has, when it feels worn out the rhythm begins its final stretch. In addition to the varied ways in which these episodic reflections are presented, because it is not as if they were simply deliberating and sending a message, they are credible dialogues framed in innocence and that precisely because of their frankness manage to accurately provide the concluded implications.
It is not a sermon, it is a sincere observation.
The context of discovery and sense of adventure is what allows the credibility of such behavior, do not misunderstand, the girls are not anthropologists, they are survivors but more importantly, they are human and therefore, they are curious. If the world were boring we would have no interest as readers either, Tsukumizu saw to it that this is not the case. Aside from the fact that the environment presented is literally not the current one (though possibly only by a decade and a half less), it is its visual representation that ends up fascinating the girls and the readers.
For despite being our world, it looks like an alien environment, full of tall buildings, winding pipes, staircases, passageways, artificial inhabitants, complex developments that seem to have no purpose, with various implications inherent in what was left behind or what can be interacted with. It also has certain touches of more "pure" science fiction that are at the discovery of the reader, but they are just that, small aspects that reinforce the unknown of our planet.
There are some very colorful panels explaining all the architectural complexity, and yet, the factor that makes Shuumatsu such a special work is precisely the opposite, on an artistic and thematic level... Let's go back to the protagonist duo. As I mentioned, our interest with the story does not lie in the world presented, but in the characters that go through it and express themselves according to how they see it. The evolution between the two, while existing, is not the attraction either, in fact, it is (again) precisely the opposite, its stability.
The world will be in an irreversible state, food will be scarcer, possibilities more distant and hope on hold, close to absolute despair and in the arms of uncertainty. The only certainty is the existence of another, the memories they had together, the things they named even though it is more out of faith than certainty, knowing that they are not alone.
On this alien planet earth, the most human thing is the warmth of a pair of hands.

Una exploración sobre el mundo a través de personajes ajenos al mismo, he ahí el eje de esta narración post apocalíptica, nunca se terminan de revelar exactamente cuáles fueron las causas porque no importa, sólo se necesitaba imaginar la excusa que prefieras con tal de contar los elementos clave, el lindo par protagónico, Chito y Yuuri.
Tienen personalidades opuestas, Chito es atenta y estudiosa, mientras Yuuri es más relajada y tranquila, diariamente se complementan en sus travesías por el mundo teñido de blanco. La estructura del manga rápidamente se notará tras leer unos capítulos, el par llega a cierta localización, encuentra u observa algo, se “reflexiona” sobre lo visto, lo utilizan o se preparan para ir a la siguiente localización. También hay un objetivo principal que será definido más adelante, y de vez en cuándo encontrarán aspectos abarcados en más capítulos de lo habitual.
Se beneficia de la poca cantidad de capítulos que tiene el manga, cuándo ya se sienta desgastado el ritmo comienza su recta final. Además de las variadas formas en cómo son presentadas esas reflexiones episódicas, porque no es como si sencillamente deliberaran enviando un mensaje, son creíbles diálogos enmarcados en inocencia y que precisamente por su franqueza logran aportar certeramente las implicaciones concluidas.
No es un sermón, es una observación sincera.
El contexto de descubrimiento y sentido de aventura es el que permite la credibilidad de tal comportamiento, no malinterpretar, las chicas no son antropólogas, son sobrevivientes pero más importantes, son humanas y por lo tanto, tienen curiosidad. Si el mundo fuera aburrido tampoco tendríamos interés como lectores, Tsukumizu se encargó de que así no fuera. Aparte de que el entorno presentado no es literalmente el actual (aunque posiblemente sólo por una década y media menos), es su representación visual la que termina fascinando a las chicas y a los lectores.
Porque pese a ser nuestro mundo, parece un entorno extraterrestre, lleno de edificios altos, tuberías serpenteantes, escaleras, pasadizos, habitantes artificiales, urbanizaciones complejas que parecen no tener propósito alguno, con varias implicaciones inherentes a lo que fue dejado o con lo que se puede interactuar. También cuenta con ciertos toques de ciencia ficción más “pura” que están al descubrimiento del lector, más sólo son eso, pequeños aspectos que refuerzan lo desconocido de nuestro planeta.
Hay paneles muy vistosos explayando toda la complejidad arquitectónica, y sin embargo, el factor que vuelve una obra tan especial a Shuumatsu es precisamente lo contrario, a nivel artístico y temático… volvamos al dúo protagónico. Como he mencionado, nuestro interés con la historia no radica en ese mundo presentado, sino en los personajes que van a través de él y se expresan conforme a cómo lo van viendo. La evolución entre ambas, si bien existente, tampoco es el atractivo, de hecho, es (nuevamente) precisamente lo contrario, su estabilidad.
El mundo estará en un estado irreversible, la comida más escasa, las posibilidades más lejanas y la esperanza en espera, cerca de la desesperación absoluta y en brazos de la incertidumbre. lo único cierto es la existencia de un otro, los recuerdos que tuvieron juntos, las cosas a las que pusieron nombre aún siendo más por fe que de certeza, saber que no están solos.
En ese extraterrestre planeta tierra, lo más humano es el calor de unas palmas.
