Studio Trigger have made an incredible sceptical. But man, is the story-telling disjointed and feels like a speed-run to the finish line.
I would have MUCH rather had this been longer at 24 episodes slowing down to really explore the character motives/feelings. David is kinda boring, his mothers' death feels less impactful or meaningful because we don't have enough time with her character to feel that weight hang over his shoulder. The romance feels forced – has no romantic flair—we don't see these characters spend enough time together to build towards a romantic arc. A certain character's death felt v out of nowhere with v little visual hints towards that being the overall outcome. We also didn't see that character have more manful emotional moments with David for it to feel impactful.
It feels very disjointed narratively. I can understand this being seen as incredibly fun, because the sceptical of violence and sex is super hyper and kinda like super-charged candy. This show needed a stronger narrative + characters.
