When evaluating an anime we must always consider what the anime wanted to achieve and what it actually managed to achieve. Just because an anime has a story that tries to be complex and philosophical doesn't mean it will be better than an anime that tries to be simple, but with a focus on being impressive, generating hype. It all depends on whether the anime managed to achieve this goal successfully or not. Redline is an anime that fits the second case, it is not and does not try to be deep and philosophical, no. But can he successfully achieve what he tries to do? Definitely YES! Shall we go to the analysis then?
Starting with the technical criteria of animation and soundtrack: To say that Redline is a beautiful anime is an understatement, Redline took 7 long years to be produced by the Madhouse studio in 2009 and as result it is absolutely amazing even by today's standards! Throughout its 1h 40min duration we are treated to an incredibly fluid animation and a very detailed and stylish art style. Those who are used to Trigger Studio anime can get an idea of what Redline is like, and for those who are not, grab and watch a trailer of Redline. OST is of high importance when we are dealing with an anime, especially if it is about racing, as it greatly increases the adrenaline that the spectator feels (a clear example of this is Initial D) and again the gods of Madhouse did not take it easy, the songs played during the races take the adrenaline to stratospheric levels, and the final music is just perfect! As a general this movie features visuals and OST that left me with my jaw dropped.
As for the story: At this point, the anime is not that strong, Redline's story is pretty basic, and it's basically divided into 3 parts: 1st race, a space of time between races, and final race (3 acts: introduction, development and conclusion). And as the first act is basically a race, the story is in charge of the following two acts. In the second act we see the preparations for the final race, such as character motivations, interactions between them and the context of the world in which the final race will take place. In the third act I felt that the anime tried to embrace too many things at the same time and that ended up making it confusing. From parallel subplots with support characters to government and mafia. If the anime had remained simple, that would be a quality of the work because its idea benefits from a simpler story, not very simple to the point where the anime is empty, but not trying to embrace so many themes to distract from the strong point that they are precisely adrenaline-filled races. (I had almost forgotten, the ending itself I found very pleasant)
As for characters: The vast majority of characters are very charismatic, from our protagonist JP to Sonoshee, Travastila and Machine Head. Several of them are shown the reasons they are racing through flashbacks and dialogue, and having their backstory we are able to understand the characters and like them even more. Our protagonist JP is very badass and manages to carry the story very well. Sonoshee is great also having a lot of charisma. Travastila is a very interesting support character and his subplot is just as interesting. As for Machine Head, he is a good antagonist that manages to take our protagonists to their maximum.
TLDR: I had a LOT of fun with this anime, the races are so well done that the adrenaline is always at its maximum. It turned into one of my favorite movies. His story is not very good, but everything else more than makes up for this aspect, after all in a racing anime the most important are precisely these other aspects.
Final score: 9/10
I really had a lot of fun, I just don't think I can rate it higher because even though the story isn't the most important thing for this type of anime I felt it was weak enough to distract me from the action.

Ao avaliar um anime devemos sempre considerar o que o anime queria alcançar e o que de fato este conseguiu alcançar. Não é porque um anime possui uma história que tenta ser complexa e filosófica que ele vai ser melhor que um anime que tenta ser simples, mas com um foco em ser impressionante, gerar hype. Tudo depende se o anime conseguiu atingir este objetivo com êxito ou não. Redline é um anime que se encaixa no segundo caso, ele não é e não tenta ser profundo e filosófico, não. Mas ele consegue atingir com êxito o que ele tenta fazer? Com certeza SIM! Vamos a análise então?
Começando pelos critérios técnicos de animação e trilha sonora: Dizer que Redline é um anime bonito chega a ser um eufemismo, Redline levou 7 longos anos para ser produzido pelo estúdio Madhouse em 2009 e como resultado ele é absolutamente incrível até mesmo para os padrões de hoje em dia! Durante toda as suas 1h 40min de duração somos presenteados com uma animação incrivelmente fluída e um estilo de arte bem detalhado e estiloso. Quem está acostumado com animes do Estúdio Trigger podem ter uma ideia de como é Redline, e para quem não está peguem e assistam um trailer. OST é de suma importância quando tratamos de uma obra, principalmente se esta for de corrida pois ela aumenta muito a adrenalina que o espectador sente (um exemplo claro disto é Initial D) e novamente os deuses da Madhouse não pegaram leve, as músicas tocadas durante as corridas elevam a adrenalina a níveis estratosféricos, e a musica final é simplesmente perfeita! Como um geral este filme apresenta visuais e OST que me deixaram com o queixo caído.
Quanto a história: Neste ponto aqui o anime não é tão forte, a história de Redline é bem básica, e se divide basicamente em 3 partes: 1ª corrida, um espaço de tempo entre as corridas, e corrida final (3 atos: introdução, desenvolvimento e conclusão). E como o primeiro ato se trata basicamente de uma corrida a história fica a cargo dos dois atos seguintes. No segundo ato vemos as preparações para a corrida final, tal como motivações de personagens, interações entre eles e o contexto do mundo em que vai se passar a corrida final. No terceiro ato eu senti que o anime tentou abraçar muita coisa ao mesmo tempo e isso acabou o tornando confuso. Desde subtramas paralelas com personagens de suporte à governo e máfia. Se o anime tivesse se mantido no simples isso seria uma qualidade da obra pois a sua ideia se beneficia de uma história mais simples, não muito simples ao ponto do anime ser vazio, mas não tentando abraçar tantos temas pra distrair do ponto forte que são justamente as corridas repletas de adrenalina. (Quase havia esquecido, o final em si eu achei muito agradável)
Quanto a personagens: A grande maioria dos personagens é bem carismática, desde nosso protagonista JP a Sonoshee, Travastila e Machine Head. Vários deles são mostradas as razões de que estão correndo através de flashbacks e diálogos, e tendo este backstory conseguimos entender os personagens e gostar ainda mais deles. Nosso protagonista JP é bem badass e consegue muito bem carregar a história. Sonoshee é ótima também possuindo bastante carisma. Travastila é um personagem de suporte bem interessante e sua subtrama é tão interessante quanto. Quanto ao Machine Head é um ótimo antagonista que consegue levar nossos protagonistas aos seus máximos.
Resumindo: me diverti MUITO com este anime, as corridas são tão bem feitas que a adrenalina está sempre no máximo. Se transformou em um dos meus filmes favoritos. A história dele não é muito boa, mas todo o resto muito mais do que compensa este aspecto, afinal em um anime de corrida o mais importante são justamente estes outros aspectos.
Nota final: 9/10
Realmente me diverti muito, só n acho que posso dar uma nota mais alta pq mesmo a história n sendo o mais importante pra este tipo de anime eu senti que ela foi fraca o suficiente pra me distrair da ação.
