I was searching for a romance anime when i stumbled upon Tsuki ga Kirei and i thought I should give it a try just from the title alone which translates to "The moon is beautiful".
Starting off with the first 10 minutes I thought it would be the boring-old romance anime, since the characters don't spend so much time talking at all in the first episode, just background mumbling at best, and of course the beginning of the texting game between Akane and Kotarou.
Later on, I realised that this is no ordinary relationship that was unfolding, but rather a relationship that was built to last. The two of them loved each other from the very first time and were unwavered by the challenges that were coming to them. From the two confessions they each faced from other people in their group to Akane ultimately moving to another city, these two faced them all head on and actually stayed together until the ending where they end up getting married.
The story might start off a bit mundane but as each episode passes, it keeps evolving into something beautiful and you can't stop watching without hoping for these two to keep being together.
The characters keep developing throughout the series as you see both the protagonists and the secondary characters evolve as their daily life continues. Kotarou, at first shy and not being able to talk to Akane, he is seen to muster up the strength to ask her out and to go up to Hira and declare that he has a relationship with Akane. Akane found the strength to continue running even after her failure at the first tournament.
Overall, I really enjoyed Tsuki ga kirei, as it is a wholesome, beautiful anime and I really connected with the protagonists and for the first time in a long time I cheered for a relationship to last in the anime world.
