I had heard of this anime for quite some time and about how amazing it was. I was actually quite surprised to hear that Square Enix was the creator which caught my attention. I had already watched Soul Eater which was also done by them, but wasn't too impressed. However, once i started watching it, I quickly learned why it was so popular. The story started off amazingly with catching my attention and i only wanted to see more. The twists in the plot were excellent with the timing of them and were never too overwhelming where u did not know what was going on. The anime was also good about keeping being more realistic. Being shot meant certain death just like in real life and the physics of the alchemy itself made sense (in its own context). This can only be said for the points in the plot which reflected the sinful nature of man quite well at some points. There were even some twists that made my stomach churn and could easily give criminal minds a run for its money. The character were all very colorful and kept the story mood lively when needed, though it did get very serious for awhile. The alchemy power was very interesting in seeing how it works in explanations as well as practice. The fights were a bit sparse, but the plot moved so well that i hardly even noticed, and they were quite good when they did happen (especially the one in the movie). While the characters and concept of alchemy is great, the story really takes the cake in FMA. You can definitely tell this is Square Enix's work with the intricate plot and developing characters. Perhaps its just me, but i kinda noticed a similarity between this anime and some of their other works such as final fantasy or kingdom hearts. The characters r in a situation where they r seeking the truth an d messed up in a situation, but a s the story progresses they uncover more of the truths and the situation changes. Oh, one more thing, a lot of people did not really like the ending. While it was a bit bittersweet, i was not too put off by it myself, but perhaps its all a matter of taste. All-in-all, FMA is an amazing anime with a terrific story, great characters, and full twists. An Equivalent Exchange for the time needed to view this fantastic journey of truth.
