If you had told me this was the author's first work, I probably would have liked it better. However, considering this came after ReLife... it's very much a downgrade from the quality of that story. Thing is, characters do get time to develop, but there isn't a single like-able character in this story. I think that's the biggest thing it suffers from.
The sudden closeness of the characters, is a bit weird. You're not usually like that with someone after three months of hanging out with them. It just doesn't feel right. There are good parts mind you, but I'm rating this on the merits of the work that came before it, and how good it was.
