Mixed Feelings
A Fantasy show regarding a fabled adventurer and his chance encounter to a Demonkin. Surely the people that enjoy the Fantasy genre more than the next guy will certainly bite and savor the show right?

Well, I'm one of them (currently) and due to my binge watching of Isekai/Action/Fantasy shows recently I've seem to come across good and bad ones. This one falls into the "eh" standard since:

The story has a good world built in my opinion. The lore of every race, how magic works, how each race interacts and interprets each other. It is to be said that this show feels right because the show's world is pretty much highly minimalistic in terms of setting. Albeit fleshed out to flatten, I don't think it really got in the way of the main story set aside some questionable moments surrounding our MCs' origins.

But the one thing that bothered me is how misleading the title can be. If you're yet to watch this then one advice I'd give is lower your expectations a bit if you assume that the show is going to be strictly family-based in the likes of Kakushigoto (For lack of a better example lol)

[SPOILER WARNING]
No, this show is focused about our MCs' relationship with one another that strived to be unique but it just came out as forced and actually a bit confusing at some point. In other words, If you've watched Usagi Drop and had the urge to read the manga, don't. UchiMusume did give off the vibe that it was going to be a story without a romance developing between our Adventurer and the Demonkin, but of course for some reason the story thought that that alone wouldn't sell so it then decided that at some point our child would fall for her foster parent.

While this is not technically an issue for some people, I personally do because after watching Usagi Drop and writing a fanfic about how the daughter eventually moved out due to growing old and falling in love with someone else and crying after writing all that, reading UD's manga all the way to the end really threw me off and left a bad taste in my mind that I actually had to refrain watching family shows for a while.

While this one didn't do it as bad as UD and actually managed to shoehorn the romantic development in despite it looking forced, it still made me think that it was a waste of potential after such a well-written beginning of a relationship alongside the supporting details we get to know as the series progresses.

In conclusion, I believe this one didn't like risks thus making the show minimal as they can afford to, though it didn't particularly ruin what the show's trying to tell as a story. The story, however, might not be what one would think if one thinks that the title is accurate. The characters are lovely and the setting - while minimal - actually piqued my interest due to lore and the interaction of races.

As for the main story...well...I would suggest that you just look at the show as it is; a nice Slice-Of-Life story in a Fantasy setting that's a bit funny and a bit cool at times.

Weirdly enough but this is actually one of those moments where you really should: 'not judge a book by its cover'.

Also, Thank you for reading my first review ever. I'm writing it with an eye half-closed and a sting of anxiety as it's the first one I've posted despite having drafts for my favorites lmao. Feel free to criticize my criticizing, leaving a comment and I hope you can go easy on me ww
