Mixed Feelings
Preliminary (29/? chp)
I’m honestly not even surprised that one of the highest rated Boys Love manga on MAL is just completely average.

As usual with BL, we don't get much introduction to the characters. Not even a real elaboration on to why the even fell in love. In fact, the first chapters sends us straight to a love confession. Oh, sure, we do get a supposed reason - "You've saved me". The saving being "you've caught a thief I was chasing and I’ve run away after". I've read the supposed "saving"" scene multiple time and sorry, I just can't see any saving or anything that would warrant falling in love. Well, I guess the manga just need to get the pairing going as quickly as possible, no reason to worry over such miniscule details as development. "I suggested we get to know each other first" – says the one who got confessed to. And few pages later dudes just start making out. Yup, totally natural development.

The story is mostly just daily life of them dating and having sex, the sex scenes being more explicit with newer chapters. There’s occasional run in with criminals thrown in to spicy things up, though it never has any actual relevance to the plot. Though to be fair, there's never really any plot to begin with. Expect the usual soap opera level of storyline.

That said, if you like BL manga, you will very likely enjoy this one. I’m sure that for those interested in gay pairings, this one is quite adorable, the roles between a yakuza and cop lover, and the contrast between a character being a member of yakuza but acting all flustered and such as a “maiden” in love. In general the manga’s what could be called wholesome, with none of the common cringy rapey stuff.

That said, if you’re not into BL, there’s nothing of interest in Honto Yajuu for you. All of the content is dependent on whether you’re interested in a gay couple being gay or not. If you don’t, it’s just plainly boring. Certainly don’t expect any grandly written story or unexpectedly great art. The high rating is there because almost nobody who doesn’t fall under the intended audience actually reads these.
