Jojolion is, so far, the most bizarre part of JoJo, rivalled maybe just by Jorge Joestar. Yes, I know, it’s literally in the title, but don’t underestimate this part. Araki really let himself go, and it’s glorious.

The transformation from over the top battle shounen spoof which JoJo started as to the gallery-worthy aesthetics in both the art and the story continues, and this is the most artsy result yet in the series. The plot takes its time and isn’t afraid of experimenting. The previous parts already had some of the most creative fights in manga medium in general and Jojolion is coming closer to a fever dream territory (and I mean this in a good way). Granted, those experiments can be hit or miss, and come at the cost of some less successful plotlines being abandoned, but that’s still much better option that taking a safe formulaic approach. Due to its unconventional content, Part 8 is also not something that will be enjoyed universally, as some readers are bound to be of the opinion that it is *too* confusing. And indeed, now that the whole thing is out, I would definitely suggest reading it as much at once as possible, as large pauses between the chapters might leave you wondering what even is happening.

A bit about the art – as mentioned, it’s worth being in art gallery, and I mean that literally. Araki has already proven himself as distinguished artist and one of the best manga authors Japan has to offer, so I’d say it should be enough just to state the artwork is not just keeping the quality – it’s actually still getting better the whole time. Both the drawing itself and the insanely creative design.

Jojolion is definitely a journey worth experiencing, though I’m writing this assuming that the teased part 9 will be actually happening, as while Part 8 is great as a piece of the franchise, it wouldn’t exactly work as a final piece.
