Mixed Feelings
Cheat Slayer did not deserve to be axed. At least not yet.

At this point in time I wouldn't hesitate to call the isekai genre a plague. Hundreds of cheap copies with low effort are endlessly flooding the market, yet the consumers are still buying it up. It's a trend that directly hurts the whole medium. After all, why bother coming up with something original when you can just throw together some shitty self-insert fantasy and it sells. And it seems it's not just some of the fans that are fed up with it, but also some of the authors. And what better way to voice your criticism towards a literature than by making your criticism into a literature itself? This is what Cheat Slayer is. Or at least, was supposed be. The isekai to surpass isekai.

Unfortunately, it hit the "idols" of the industry a bit too close and bit too directly, so it had to be terminated. Partly due to how Japanese society norms work, partly due to how Japanese copyright works. It was definitely not due to bad quality, as the title quickly gained steam in being talked about, and as more chapters than one are needed to determine if readers are interested. Sure, some of the isekai titles referenced in this manga aren't actually bad, but that's not the point - the point is a big middle finger towards the genre itself, and the authors certainly have balls for doing so.

This could have been great, this could take a dive in quality and become as terrible as what it criticizes, unfortunately we'll never know. But the concept is definitely intriguing and I wish we had more of it.
